Hands on review of the Lange & Söhne 1815 Annual Calendar

 By: foversta : September 4th, 2017-15:01
It must be confessed, the unveiling at the last SIHH of the annual calendar as a new complication within the Lange & Söhne 1815 collection was not a surprise. There were many observers who were expecting it. With this addition, the manufacture from Sa...

Thank you FX for this interesting and in depth review as usual

To answer to your question, I prefer the Saxonia annual calendar. First, you have the Lange big date which is really significant in my opinion and so... Lange. Then, its readability is better than the one of the 1815 for me. To end, its dial is more sober...

My pleasure FX

I forgot to mention that the "Annual Calendar" writing has not interest for me (just to counterbalance the sub dial at 9). Best wishes Alkiro

That's why the Saxonia is more interesting for me

With its big date for readability and Lange signature. Also, I find the "annual calendar" writing on the 1858 a bit distracting.

much prefer the saxonia..

Thanks for the review fx.. somehow I find the area in the 2-4-8-10 zone way too busy.. perhaps the als logo could be written horizontally for this model.. The owner also doesn't need to be reminder this is an annual calendar.. in my opinion a 24hr indicat...

Your point regarding the month sub-dial is a good one.

It's a bit surprising Lange didn't think of this.

yes, I agree [nt]

Another excellent review, Fx.

I don't know which I would choose between the two Lange ACs. I think I prefer the 1815 aesthetic, but I do not like the "Annual Calendar" wording in the right sub-dial; and the big date is certainly a selling point for the Saxonia.

Thanks Mike! [nt]

Have not seen this 1815 yet

What I like, a lot, about this piece is the date correction with the pusher at two o'clock: you can advance the data in one increments of all dates, if the watch has stopped and the corrections are not too many to do. But this should not happen too often ...

Love the watch, but...

I think they should have included a power reserve indicator since this is a manual wind watch with annual calendar complication. The Saxonia Annual Calendar seems like it might be easier to live with (since you can just throw in on the winder when you are...

Great review Fr.Xavier

I am partial to the 1815 calendar to the Saxonia for the following reasons: - prefer the manual movement with quick reset and 72 power reserve to Saxonia's automatic - although more difficult to read the dial has life compared to the more legible but subd...

Saw it irl recently

The WG version. Nice watch but for me, it's hard to read the date. But it's a very well balance dial though

Prefer the 1815

The arrangement of the dials is more harmonious - Saxonia suffers for me from the same problem that Lange 1 does - empty space on the dial.

OK, just tried it and no go

One big flaw for me which I only saw in person - the larger case makes the small sub dials too spaced apart. I wouldn't mind the 'Annual Calendar' typography nor the small font on the calendar indicators, but the spacing is really distracting. I think I g...

1815 AC is my choice

I was wanting a 1815 as I so much in love with the pocket watch nature of the series. It’s like you a buying a mechanical watch and the pocket watch style should be in the collection The next question to me was to have a 1815 that suits everyday wearabili...

“AC” wording on the dial feels like... ....

“Sports Car” wording on the car body of a Ferrari or “Limousine” wording on a Bentley next to their respective logos. Wished they remove it.

Can’t disagree with this

It would be even better to be a day night indicator/ power reserve.
