The New Cartier Tank Française …
Jan 18, 2023,14:25 PM
Cartier have significantly revised the Tank Française and the new design features a modernist satin finish, recessed crown and a curvaceous case profile.
Looking at the design it’s instantly recognisable as a Cartier Tank Française, but updated and very relevant for current design trends. The other significant change is that the large-size model comes with an automatic movement.
It’s unfortunate that this model is only offered with a date window as a choice would be perfect.
This is certainly an extensive range featuring seven new models within the Tank Française collection, including four in 18K yellow gold versions and three in stainless steel. The good news is that the three steel models come in different sizes, so hopefully you will find a perfect fit.
The steel model that we would probably prefer is the large version with an automatic movement. The dial is similar to those of the two smaller references but this automatic version comes with a date window at 3 o’clock. This large Tank Française watch (WSTA0067) measures 36.7mm long, 30.5mm wide, and 10.1mm thick. The width of the stainless steel bracelet is 22mm.
The full 18K yellow gold Tank Française models consist of four references, but crucially there are just two different sizes. Each size also has a variant with a diamond-set crown and brancards.
All models have the same water-resistance rating of 100 feet / 30 meters (3 bar / 3 ATM).
My opinion is that the new Cartier Tank Française looks fresh and modern, whilst retaining the elegance of the original Cartier design, it simply looks more “integrated” than ever before. personally, I like recessed crown and the brushed finishing.
I’m looking forward to trying the various models in the very near future.
What are your thoughts ?
Best regards
Captain

Better elsewhere for your needs. What’s your preferred choice of watch ?
I really like it

I am not a big fan of the date window, I don't like the seconds hand and I would prefer it on a strap, but it's an appealing package overall.
I find it clunky

And less elegant than the original. Also, the automatic movement is simply a Sellita. And I won’t say anything about the clumsy date. Maybe I’ll be convinced by seeing it in person but from what I have seen so far, it’s a big no from me. Shame, as they’ve...

will be the last reason for buying this watch. most will be sold to women in small and medium with the quartz movement. The "relaunch" is not the point, Cartier has not "revolutionized" their design, it's a slow and steady evolution. The dial, for example...

Cartier have done just that and people want a date included 🤷🏼♂️
My pal just bought this version . . .

Certainly Cartier are on a roll right now. I’ve always struggled to find the right model for me. This one is quite an interesting revamp and I’m sure will be a hit. I’m happy to say that after an “on again / off again” search I’ve finally landed on a Cart...
Your choice is excellent …

For all the reasons that you mentioned and I completely agree. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience with us on the Cartier forum. Best regards Captain
Thanks again Captain.

I did see this model a couple of weeks ago at my AD (not on display and no photos!). I went back today and took these photos of the large model in stainless (my wrist size is 17.2cm). ...
Excellent, thank you …

Your photos are really useful for our community. I was due to see the watch at a preview but I was on vacation. What did you think about it ?
You’re welcome.

Personally I prefer this over the previous model. I think the overall “squared off” look is more of a statement differentiating its place in the Tank family. I particularly like the way that the bracelet looks a more solid match in the way it marries to t...
