With all your senses...

Dear friends,
my passion for mechanical watches began when I discovered an incredible watch as a young man over 25 years ago.It was the Jaeger LeCoultre  Le Grand Reveil that completely blew my imagination. I saw this watch in a watch magazine and went to a retailer some time later to experience it. This watch was completely out of reach for me then, a watch from another world.

What impressed me most about this watch was that I could enjoy it with almost all senses. In addition to the look and the feel, I also enjoyed this watch over the sound of the bronze bell.
Since then, I have been enthusiastic about all watches that emit wonderful sounds as an alarm function or as a repeater. No wonder that the Hublot Alarm Repeater appeals to me.

It's an unusual Hublot, even more unusual than Hublot watches commonly are.

The movement, it´s the HUB 5003, is not produced by Hublot, it was developed together with Chronode and is also manufactured there for Hublot.
It's amazing how different functions and complications Hublot packs into the iconic Big Bang case. Nevertheless, with identical basic design, new watches are always created. Same but different.
The Alarm Repeater is very easy to use.
The current local time is indicated via the large hands.
A small sub-dial at 11 o'clock shows the time in a second time zone. The time of the second time zone can be adjusted via the push-button at 2 o'clock.
In addition, there is a day / night display, which is represented by a small triangle.
Between 6 o'clock in the morning and 6 o'clock in the evening, the triangle appears as a bright luminescent indication.
At 6 o'clock in the evening the trick starts to turn black.
At night, the triangle is completely black ...
... before it resumes its bright and luminescent color at 6 o'clock in the morning.

This indication is well readable even in the dark.

Overall, all displays of the Alarm Repeater are well readable even at night.
At 4 o'clock is the sub-dial for the alarm time.
This is set in the crown position 1 in 5 minute steps.
The crown is secured by a bayonet lock, as is the case with the Big Bang Ferrari models.
The alarm can be switched off by pressing the red button at 4 o'clock.
It is just as easy to reactivate the alarm by pressing the red button. Both are indicated by a small hand at 7 o'clock.
Even the hammer that strikes the gong carries luminescent material.
Mechanically, the alarm time is transmitted from the dial at 4 o'clock by means of a disc on the back in the movement.
This disc carries a small recess (in the following picture the 2), which programs the alarm time. In this falls a small hammer (1) , which then activates the striking mechanism.
The alarm is loud and clear. It takes about 25 seconds.

***The video is at the bottom of the page.

Overall, the HUB 5003 is a feast for the eyes.

For me one of the most interesting and underestimating Hublot watches of modern times.

Cheers,
Sascha
