Petrus 1981 not what I expected but what I hoped for.

Just came across a blind tasting post on the Petrus 1981. A spectacular review from what they said "on paper we never would have expected". Some inspiration for me. Petrus 1981 ...

Interesting....while not a great vintage,1981 was not a 'terrible' vintage.

I have drunk many claret from that vintage which were enjoyable. You have a gem there, unexpected or not. best

It was just another wine I bought to drink.

It is crazy like watches that all of a sudden go from daily wearer to too valuable to wear. So many wine are stored for future value. But I must admit I need participation from wine geeks who are happy to geek out with me on enjoying the wines and i only ...

It sure looks like....

a 'winning hand', I don't follow wine reviews frequently but I've seldom read such profuse praise! Anyway, this interview on all things wine by Dr. Sean Carroll remains one of my favorites!

Wines and watches are there to be enjoyed, regardless of price.

However, unlike watches, wine has to be consumed to be appreciated and enjoyed ---as they say,the proof is in the drinking(sic)! Would love to join you tasting. Enjoy your liquid assets!

Not a surprise for me…

I was never a big fan of Petrus... Every time I had the chance to have a drink... or more, I was disappointed... I can't say it's a bad wine... but just a wine that is not for me... I sold all my bottles from this vineyard except for 3 bottles of 2002 and...

Agreed. Hence I bought Petrus to drink in this off year.

I think many people who are disappointed because price can make the grapes sour the joy when compared to a great bargain with great taste.

Wine is so fascinating. How some vintages can last 100 years and some are on the other side of their prime after 40. The 1981 Petrus tasting notes were very interesting. I made some notes recently on a 1972 Clos-Saint-Denis and the structure, nose and eve...
