Can Freshness = Luxury?

There are lots of different definitions of Luxury in this world. And on this site.

Some dictionaries say: material object, service, etc., that is conducive to sumptuous living; usually a delicacy, elegance, or refinement rather than a necessity.

Images often portray water, a view, a woman:

wood, chrome, leather, soft surfaces:

HOWEVER

As we all know, meals can come in a white plastic foam clamshell, or served on a silver platter,

or on an irregular slab of stone;

with secret sauce, Bordelaise, or mushroom foam.

But I would like to advance a contrary point of view of food luxury, that of the Locavore.

Meaning that necessities (in this crazy, tech-driven world) if done right, and fresh and local (taken for granted in generations past) can be just as much LUXURY as elaborate preparation.

For example, yesterday we gathered a dozen or two fresh oranges from a neighbor's tree. And we juiced them.

There is nothing so sweet (so LUXURIOUS) in the morning as freshly-squeezed orange juice (no matter what those big co-ops say on television advertising), because the labels say it all

"Juice from concentrate from Brazil, Mexico, Israel, Florida, California, etc."

(Sharp-eyed observers will notice two drops of sunflower oil)

Then we marched out and picked some pomegranates off our tree, and briefly freed these little morsels of tart goodness

I hope there is nothing so LUXURIOUS as MR & MRS CAZALEA's POMEGRANATE INFUSED VODKA gifts for Christmas.

(I'll let you know after this test batch - it should take care of a few San Diego Purists ...)

i don’t want to call this forbidden fruit but you make a very good point about what is luxury and how easy it is to misinterpret the signsls. Breakfast in bed is a luxury ripe for any one to enjoy. A glass of wine with a friend or two is a luxurious life....

I so agree

For me luxury is to have what you want when and where you want it. If it’s a glass of fresh pressed orange juice, so be it. If you are super thirsty and need some vitamin C, giving you a super top boat with all wooden designish interior will be pointless ...

Mmmm, here’s to hoping I get to sample some of this luxury😉

Your Seiko chronograph is a very interesting piece. A watchmaker friend has one in bracelet with a nicely faded insert. It belongs to a client who never came back to retrieve it. Needless to say that although I try to push him to sale it to me every time ...

Freshly squeezed orange juice with your Pogue...

Luxury indeed! You have been hiding this one well, Mike! 👌🏻
