Root beer once again

Dec 02, 2019,10:03 AM

Hi all

Just wanted to share an unfortunate (but maybe usual) experience with an AD in Canary Wharf London.

Like some of you know already I am looking for a so rare rolex root beer. I only have a modest (collection) so don’t necessarily have a huge relationship with several ADs etc etc.

So I entered that boutique this weekend and when I innocently asked if they could help me getting one, they basically told me off with some arrogance by asking me to build a relationship with them first and buy “some” jewelleries first so that I could potentially get on the waiting list!

My first reaction back was that I am looking for a watch...and they are not only offering their help to a potential new (long time??) client but also asking me to spend few dozens of grounds in something that I am not looking for to only have my chance...

I am not upset with the fact they want to prioritise their existing clients but the way she spoke to me was really arrogant and clearly will never be building any relationship with them any soon...she could just have said to add my name to the list and never call me or even trash the paper after I left... at least she would not have taken the risk to offend a customer.

Anyway../thanks for reading.

Let me kno your thoughts

Kev

There is a french comic singer Helmut Fritz and tells the sales person you are selling the item not the designer

Effectively saying just because you sell an expensive item don’t take on an attitude.

What annoyed me the most

Was that the waiting time is meant to be less than a year for “known customers” so it does not even seem to be “so rare” to get one. They are selling Patek too so I tried to explain I own one but as I did not buy it from them it seemed like I was a renega...

Can’t agree more

Problem is I don’t know many ADs who could have it even if I am willing to wait a bit. Kev

I like the watch a lot. [nt]

I think I know exactly the dealer you are referring to as I too was local there for a couple of years. I did however buy a Rolex datejust from them in September as a steel datejust is not as common as it used to be and besides I am partial to the 36mm dat...

Yes that's the one

the only Rolex dealer at Canary Wharf who also sells jewellry. Not the best for customer service although I know one purist who managed to get his Patek 3940G salmon dial there (one of only 5!).

Sweet Looking watch!! [nt]

that this seems to be the lament within the circle of watch AD shops handling Rolex. I for one find it often in the Fine Art Galleries......people at the "front desk" with lots of attitude, which is BS. In fact I often chuckle when the actual gallery owne...

This is so true!

Huge disappointment from that boutique. I just feel bad for their existing customers if they treated them like that too at their first purchase... Kev

Sorry state of affairs

I first dealt with the manager of the store in question years ago when he worked at another boutique in Royal Exchange. Very decent guy and I’ve purchased a few pieces from him over the years (and if I’ve got this right his brother who works in another bo...

and I knew his brother too who I had bought a Nomos from in the 90s when Nomos were still using Swiss movements. My first meeting with the manager was pleasant and memorable as we spent an hour talking about watches and Pateks and he presented me with a l...
