a Geiger counter is a definite must have. If the dials and hands don't read off the charts, then they are not the real deal! Radium is hard to come by these days.

Not totally correct. For example, you have some 6542 whose dials and inserts have been changed by Rolex in Dec 1959. Here is the document.

Which Rolex replaced but did they also replace the dial and hands? The document only says replacement of the bezel if necessary.

I know there were dials for the 6542 with the Exclamation Dot, without feet, which is correct. So yes, they replaced the original dials wit the early " ! " and then service dials. [nt]
