So many jewels in the Portugieser 2000
The Portugieser 2000, was a limited production made in year 2000 to mark the start of the new millennium, with a completely newly designed movement, cal. 5000. It's the predecessor of the regular production Portugieser 5001, and its most recent version, IW5007. Given it's over 20 years old, mine is finally needing to be sent in for a full service as it is gaining over 1 minute per day.
What I find fascinating is that the movement has 44 jewels! For a time-only watch with power reserve indicator. In comparison, the movement in the latest Portugieser, cal. 52010, has only 31 jewels, and this comes with an additional Date complication.
Does anyone know why the old Cal. 5000 had so many jewels? None of my other time only watches comes even close to that many jewels. As matter of fact, only my Rolex cal. 4130 in the Daytona matches it with 44 jewels.

Love that dial and bracelet. I also agree, many Jewels for a time and power reserve movement. I sent my pilot chrono to service and it went smoothly.
I had a 5001-07 years ago and it was actually my first watch i purchased
New! Also, Nico would post his time to time and for the longest time I didn’t know why I liked it so much (since I had a newer one)… I like the rounded sapphire, different power reserve indicator and lastly the absence of the date!
