I have no new inside information, but I’m hoping that Omega will leave the hesalite model alone with the 1861 movement in place and upgrade the sapphire version to caliber 3861 and call it a day. That would let entry level collectors have access to the Speedy and keep NASA happy for space flight operations.
The last Omega CEO promised that the basic Speedy model would not be changed. Only time will tell, I guess.

I’ve heard rumors that omega will discontinue the current hesalite speedmaster professional, and put the 3861 movement in to-be-offered sapphire sandwich model, albeit at a higher price point. Anybody else hear such rumblings? And another minor question: ...

they'd sever the bloodline to their most treasured heritage if they did. Might "upgrade" the sapphire version, though. Cheers Marc

Who knows. If they do that, what a shame. I have always described the moonwatch as the most affordable luxury sports watch one can buy from a store. That’s how i got mine.
