Black Laureato Ti 230 inbound today

So I was originally interested in the 42mm 3-hand laureato, many flavors appeal to me, and stopped by Wempe in NYC to see in person. While there, the salesman showed me several of the absolute line and this Ti230 in black really appealed to me, in a very different way.
I certainly think the regular laureato (I’m especially interested in the infinity) is the classic, versatile, and just kind of ‘everything’ choice, but the absolute just had this sexy, fun, a little aggressive take that my collection very much had nothing comparable to, and both times I visited to see it in person I got that same “yes” feeling.
For people ruling out the watch because it’s 44mm, it wears smaller width wise, something about the thick bezel and thus smaller dial, and the curvature of the lugs… I own two 43mm watches that wear much bulkier on the wrist.
It IS very thick, but I actually think that’s part of its wrist presence… it’s very 3-dimensional in a fun way, and the fume dial exaggerates it’s depth even more so.
The strap/clasp are incredibly impressive btw, had never seen anything quite like it.
One thing I didn’t like was learning (after the purchase), that the movement is not the larger, longer power reserve one from the Laureato 42, but the smaller one from the laureato 38 (and many other GP’s). Seems like the wrong fit for this watch, though I know a proven, reliable manufacturer calibre of course deserving of respect.
Ultimately this watch was a bit of an impulsive buy, and not that versatile, but I have a collection full of watches that are really refined, have great movements, just the right size, etc, but this watch got me excited in completely different ways.
Can’t wait to have it delivered today.
