Chopard Quattro 25 ... Classic watchmaking

Chopard released the LUC Quattro Spirit 25 in an LE of 100 pieces at W&W 2021.

While it drew modest attention, the release IMHO did not get the rich appreciation it deserved and was largely drowned by the hype around Rolex and Nautilus.

Let us look at what makes the Chopard Quattro Spirit 25 stand-out.

A classically designed LUC gold case with 40mm dia.

Grand Feu enamel dial and hand painted markers and numerals. Gold minute hand. Uncluttered and clean execution that spells class and sophistication. In fact the power reserve indicator has been discreetly moved to the rear of the watch.

A uniquely positioned hour window at the 6’O clock instead of the usual 12. Interestingly the hour window has been framed in gold demonstrating attention to detail and classic watch making touches. The positioning of the hour window has been done to allow the wearer to enjoy the instantaneous jump-hour at the exact 60min point. The minute hand would have obscured the hour change if the hour-window had been positioned at 12’O clock. Video from Chopard Manufacture, attached to show the instant jump.

LUC in-house Caliber 98.06L delivering 8 day power reserve via 4 barrels. Hairspring incorporates Phillips Terminal curve, which requires tremendous dexterity and care from watch-makers. Finished by hand.

Another very interesting feature in this watch is that the minute hand would move only forward while setting the minutes.

LUC Quattro Spirit 25 is a connoisseur’s piece.

I somehow feel that a milky white enamel dial and RG are match made in heaven. White Gold or Platinum, to me is a bit cold and does not let the enamel dial shine. Perhaps if the markers and numerals were blue-painted and the minute-hand designed with ther...

Wonderfully pure. Chopard had some nice releases this year.

...but maybe the hour is sunk a little too far down? Other than that, another winner for Chopard.

LU Chopard has been called “Patek for pennies” and for good reason.

For 25 years it has produced some superb watches. I would count this one among them. Never aiming to deliver more than a few thousand pieces a year (I believe the number is around 5,000-6,000 across all their lines) the company focuses instead on movement...
