A first glance at what looks to be one of the 2023 Fifty Fathoms novelties

Nov 23, 2022,19:00 PM

Earlier his week I had the opportunity to visit Blancpain and even had the chance to briefly meet Marc Hayek. On his wrist I noticed a very interesting watch, most likely a prototype for next year’s 70th anniversary of the Fifty Fathoms.

I can’t provide any details, but to me it clearly looked smaller than 45mm and larger than 40mm. When you zoom in you see it apparently is a new 70th Anniversary Fifty Fathoms, like the 2003 special edition.

I got the blessing from Blancpain to post this photo, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to share this promising first impression with you.

Cheers
Henrik

Will it be the Blancpain I finally get?

I have been wanting a 40mm Blancpain Fifty fathom for a while now. I was just waiting for the right one. Hopefully there is a no date version and no Blancpain engraved on the side.

If they don't make a small FF they are clueless

These special editions are hard to get and have faux patina. I would have gotten a FF over my sub if not 45mm. If for 70th anniversary then likely limited. I don't understand why BP makes desirable watches in limited edition. For a company that seemingly ...

Great news

It does seem their small models have lower tier movements? Not super familiar with their movement catalog.

A bit shorter power reserve, but the smaller movements are definitely not inferior in any other way.

I have an ocean commitment III, 40mm . Even the finishing is above and beyond what other brands do at this price point.

Now that is the connoisseur choice

Love that, the one I'd own for sure.

Thank you!

The only thing about those 40mm limited editions is that they are a bit thick, so even though they look good on a strap, for me bracelet is the way to go . I understand why many collectors think that something like 42-43mm would be the sweet spot for FF. ...

Well, not necessarily lower tier but it’s safe to say the cal 1315 tops the 1150…

… and if it’s really a 42-43mm FF I believe the 1315 would fit. I haven’t seen the watch up close and personal, so I can’t tell what was inside.

Seems

Seems the 1315 is more robust but the 1150 is more finely finished?

Looks great!

I hope a smaller version will be introduced.

Count me among the thousands who would own an FF if not for the overly large size (diameter and thickness). Frankly, I just want an exact clone, but in a smaller size. 42mm would be perfect. Cheers, John

Very close to the 50th anniversary!

Definitely curious to hear more. I wish they would revive the Leman Aqualung series on bracelet, much thinner than the FF as a daily.

Perhaps I am imagining things, but it looks like the dial says “Series 1” at the bottom, which if correct, might signal that there will be more than one commemorative Anniversary model?

I just received this email from Blancpain . . .

I actually called the boutique yesterday. They stated they knew nothing about this. But after some “jostling,” they agreed to take a deposit.😉 Then this email appears today! There was nothing when I clicked on Download the press kit. Now, my interpretatio...

I’m imagining 4 diverse product subgroups. 1.A historical 70th anniversary limited edition paying homage to the original 2. 20th anniversary, non-LE, refreshed production model 3. 20th anniversary LE Ocean Commitment 4. 10th anniversary LE Gombessa in ver...

It looks great. No white gold surrounds on the arabics is nice. Fingers crossed for closer to 40mm than 45mm.

Oh yes. That is very nice 👍🏻

I can picture it on my wrist as I write…

Thank you for sharing and thanks to Blancpain for green lighting this preview. Let’s not forget about the 10th anniversary of the ever successful and growing Bathyscaphe line. Looking forward to learning about all the novelties, Alex
