Thoughts on trading current collection for a full gold Royal Oak Tourbillon

Oct 21, 2019,17:36 PM

I am in love with the Royal Oak 26522OR Tourbillon in full rose gold with the blue dial. I can trade my current collection which consists of a full rose gold 26331OR Royal Oak Chronograph (estimated value $50K), stainless 15400ST boutique blue dial Royal Oak (estimates value $27k), a Patek Philippe Calatrava 5296G in white gold (estimated value $19k), Ulysse Nardin Marine Maxi in rose gold (estimated value $12k). The overall deal would be my aforementioned collection worth approximately $108k PLUS $20k cash.

Photos of it...the Royal Oak full rose gold Tourbillon blue dial are attached below.... it doesn’t look great in the photos because it is still wrapped in plastic as it’s brand new. This is a real grail. Funny how I thought every previous watch I bought was a grail...but this one really is.

Thoughts? Should I do it?

I am very much a "less is more" individual.

But here, I would not do it. I never last with colored gold models, so I would chase something different if proceeding in this direction.

My pleasure, and thank you.

These questions are never easy, but good for you to ask for input. We have all been there!

Follow your heart (and brain) as this is a very personal decision, plus I'm really no AP expert...BUT, just a few days ago you posted a picture of a (really stunning) chrono...

If that's so quickly no longer your grail, are you positive this tourbillon really will be? Again, it's your decision, but I would hardly bet all my money on one horse, unless I'm *really* sure that horse will win many, many races. Otherwise, how easily c...

Too much $

I love the idea of consolidating everything into one piece (quality > quantity) but think that $128,000 is VERY expensive for this watch. The stainless versions are closer to $90,000 right now. I don’t think the $20k on top is a smart move these watches a...

No. There are no grail watches.

But you won't know until you do it.

My own personally opinion is NO

I’ve never owned a watch of that high value but from experience trading many watches for 1 never works for me because I invariably get bored with THE ONE and start missing THE MANY. It all comes down to individual stories with watches for me, and if you l...

I would agree with MichaelC

Less is more... However a tourbillon is a very particular watch. A beauty but very “committing” I used to own one (different brand) and ended up selling it as a rarely wore it... It depends on your lifestyle of course, but personally I would not only own ...

A beautiful AP but if it was me I won’t do it .

Still think that your rose gold And SS watches give you more pleasure when you change between them from time to time. Consolidate isn’t for me , yet , . But please do what’s makes you happy.

No.

For three reasons: 1. A tourbillon is special. Would you wear it to all your different activities, from gardening to the opera? In your current collection you have a suitabe watch for many different activities. 2. The Royal Oak's DNA arguably is a time-on...

The Royal Oak Tourbillon in full rose gold with the blue dial, is a stunning watch!

But, I would not do what you are asking. The problem is the "PLUS 20K" part. Simply too much, sorry. I would need that 20K to get a SS Daytona or something similar. You will need it, the Tourbillon is spectacular, but it is not good for a ONE watch game. ...

Tbh I along with the majority would not go along with this trade. However, I also think that is exactly why you should do it, as the watch will be an expression of your love for such a unique combination of design, material and mechanism. It represents an...

I also took a similar approach in selling a few pieces to acquire a ceramic perpetual. I have never regretted it at all, because it's such a special piece and one that I wear constantly since acquiring it. But as you have seen with recent posts I decided ...

A whole collection (+ cash) for a RO turbo? It's definitely a great deal for the seller, but not at all for you. What do you like the most, the RO shape, the gold, the tourbillon? You already have the first 2, if you really want a tourbillon there are ple...

I wud not give up the RG chrono but wud def give up 15400, Calatrava and UN+cash to get the AP tourby in ST. That way I ve a chrono complication and I have a reasonable T. Ideal wud be a ..

...ST APROC for daily and a Gold Tourby for dress-ups. Trade-in the RG APROC for a ST one and get the RG Tourby so no cash outlay. The APRO Tourbillions are stunning

Gold AP

Over the years I have decided there is no grail watch only until there is another one. The Swiss, Germans and Japanese can make them faster then we can buy them. So I would not give up your outstanding group for one “grail”.

Too much $$$
