Now Baselworld is dead. RIP

Now Baselworld announced there will be no more watch fairs.

From their site:

No further editions of Baselworld are planned at this point.

MCH Group, the parent company of Baselworld, has taken a strategic decision to focus on new initiatives and growth opportunities while strengthening the existing portfolio such as its Art Basel shows.

This decision was based on a thorough analysis of current market conditions and target segments, intense discussions, and a deep-dive the into global markets, clients, and end-consumer needs.

From 1917 – 2019 BASELWORLD brought the world of watches, jewelry, and gemstones to life. Each year, this de rigueur event welcomed all the relevant players in the industry from around the world: manufacturers, buyers, merchants, collectors, media, and enthusiasts.

In its peak years around 2015, BASELWORLD hosted 1,500 exhibitors from 40 nations on 140’000 square meters and welcomed over 150,000 visitors.

...I was at a Rolex AD in Palm Beach last year and they had a HUGE room devoted to the brand. It contained 2 watches, both jeweled ladies models.

More seats for the waiting room

. . . but you're probably on the right track! LA is hosting the Olympics in '28 - maybe they're gearing up for all the tourists who want to see a showcase with a ladies model alongside pictures of Daytonas.

Ah,ok. I was simply joking but I hadn’t thought of the Olympics

It’s the same story across brands. Patek are making a huge store in Hamburg despite virtually no stock. I suppose it’s to entertain and sell “an experience”. Prices will go up but not production numbers. AP making their “AP houses” I guess they need to ke...
