'Pet Peeves', or annoyances, on watches. We all have them, what are your 'pet peeves' that keep you from buying a certain model/brand/type?

 By: DouglasM : September 9th, 2021-17:32
Mine would be white date wheels on high end watches, no matter what model we're talking about. I'm not naming any names, but we all know some. It may not bug you, and I understand that, but to me it's a deal killer in all but a very few cases (such as pil...

Excellent thread!

1. Date wheels at the 4:30 position 2. Date functionality that doesn’t automatically switch at midnight (slow changing) 3. Date functionality that can only be set forwards 4. And, last but not least, having the date functionality in general. After all, th...

Like what Lankysudanese said....

Date window at 4:30pm is a no-go for me...which is why I can't get any sought after APs P Brands that makes models that I cannot tell them apart, like Panerai. I also do not like imbalanced dial, a small seconds window on the side...like the FPJ CBs and e...

My Pet Peeves

Rolex deliver almost every watch on a bracelet. Rolex never heard of a sapphire crystal case back. AP thinks a Royal Oak is enough. PP is afraid to come with modern watches. Brand neutral Pet Peeves: Complex strap attach systems, you can only chose what t...

Limited editions

 By: mhz vph : September 9th, 2021-19:18
As weems said, a pet peeve for many, and certainly for me. I'm especially disappointed to see GS going down the limited edition route. If you're the type of person who heavily analyzes your options before a purchase, it makes that analysis impossible. By ...

Movements too small for their case

Looking at you, Girard-Perregaux. Best Andreas

What I find really annoying

 By: VinnieD : September 9th, 2021-19:28
Is the lack of available product... it drives me crazy not to be able to walk into a store and just order a piece that I like. Waiting 1 year or so would be perfectly acceptable but having to buy less interesting pieces in order to have the honour to be o...

It’s really nasty indeed, rife for con artists too

The only silver lining is while money is chasing certain brands, other high end ones can be had for a bargain

Date windows that show more than the current date. Do they think we can't remember what comes before and after '5'?

Just one example, but there are many out there... photo from Tourneau website ...

Integrated bracelets.

Absolutely, I agree.

Great thread, Douglas!

My personal pet peeves: * cost-saving measures with simultaneous profiteering, especially: • lovelessly produced movements without precision work in the high price (haute horlogerie) segment or • movements that are too small in cases that are too large or...

"Hands that are not polished on all sides"

That one made me chuckle. Your list of likeable watch brands is probably very short!

Hehehehe…. But I admit that laughter often gets stuck in my throat….

 By: MTR : September 10th, 2021-08:07
Unfortunately you are right, there are not many brands left but there are also always a few gems from almost every brand (I'm just thinking of my wonderful minute repeater from IWC from the good old days). I definitely won't let myself be blinded by any m...

Display backs on “tool” watches

 By: Mario : September 9th, 2021-23:12
And also on watches where the only thing that shows is the rotor and/or balance wheel.

Pieces that borrow designs heavily from the past but then “forget” to use a decent movement.. especially for those from their golden years..

 By: Echi : September 10th, 2021-00:49
An interesting example is the railmaster trilogy. An auto instead of a manual BUT then gets away with it because it’s still a decent omega co-ax movement. I still bought it in spite of my “rule” because it’s the closest to an RM I can get. Its’ probably w...

My peeves

 By: roundel : September 10th, 2021-16:04
I do not like cathedral hands. Non quick set dates. Manual wind watches that are not comfortable to wind (Speedy pro) Brand names that remind me of feces (Shinola) Watch shapes that look like toilets (Towson Watch Company) Too many contrasting fonts on a ...

How about odd lug sizes

 By: mjcruiser : September 13th, 2021-01:36
19 - 21 -23 just are not necessary. Surely an extra millimeter will not ruin the golden proportions of the watch; and open up the options for the next strap.

Ugh, so agree with you here.
