Bulova alarm watch 11 AERC (M7)

I have a few alarm watches. Apparently alarm watches were popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s and a lot of the brands wanted to sell them. Most used bought in movements. Bulova was one of just a few companies that manufactured their own alarm movement.

Bulova was an innovating company and they were known for decades for their clock radios, which ran on AC mains power. Even when they introduced transistor radios into the clock radios during the 1950’s they still used the AC mains. The alarm watch radio in the last picture is representative of the probably inevitable result of their innovation: it doesn’t have to be plugged in to the mains. When the radio switch is set to the alarm function, the AM band radio will turn on when the watch time meets the set time. It is from the mid 1960’s. On the back it reads “6 -Transistor Made Under Bulova Engineering Supervision In Japan”
