The Bespoke Journey with Cedric Johner: Step 1
Feb 18, 2021,06:24 AM
Hello Everyone,
What a crazy year or so its been for all of us. The rate of change in the world has been tremendous both good and bad. My love for horology has also changed, I am more picky and instead of the knee jerk reaction of that I have to have it I like to take my time now to see if I will really keep the piece long term or will get bored after a month and have to sell it. Its always something, like I wish it didn't have a date, its too simple, no emotional connection with the piece and so on. Until Rolex makes the stainless steel Day Date or the Titanium Submariner with no date or AP make a Titanium or Full Carbon Royal Oak I am not really interested by whats on offer at the moment. Then there is the issue of waiting lists and paying double retail. No, I'm not doing that. So what's a WIS to do?
Go Bespoke. Have someone make and you Design your own Watch. That was not an easy process to find someone to do that for me that I would trust and that too at a reasonable price. Crazy Numbers of 50 to 100k USD were thrown my way. Nope, sorry, way out of budget.
Thanks to Machiel Hulsman from Hulsman Timepieces in the Netherlands he recommended I get in touch with Cedric Johner. I had no idea who he was until I did a deep dive on his background:
So I started communicating with him about my ideas and project, he immediately understood what I wanted and was excited to work on it. It was an amazing experience to deal with him and he sent me a timeline and plan for the build and we decided to work together on the project. I am so excited and its brought back fun to my favorite hobby again. He recently sent me some pics of Step 1 which is to inspect the movement, thankfully nothing damaged but over 52 years of dirt, grime and oxidation need to be cleaned part by part.
Look forward to the next stage of the build, hope you guys will enjoy my journey as much as I am.
