It really depends on the store for me... I only enjoy great sales associates and brand owners.

A lot of salespeople in stores are really tragically uninformed (can't tell the difference between a mainspring and a hairspring), not motivated and there for the paycheck, not knowledgeable ("this one has a micro rotor which is supposed to be very good"), very superficial ("that looks great on you, you should buy it"), and so on... And the fact of the matter is that sometimes we, as consumers, are really at fault. We allow this to happen. Because we have low expectations, we assume these salespeople are not extremely passionate nor highly educated individuals who went to the best schools nor are they the most successful individuals. So we accept this as part of the territory. We want the product ourselves, so we're going to buy it regardless.
The best part for me is meeting the individual creators. Meeting Max Busser, Roland Iten, Felix Baumgartner, or going to the Lange factory is something that's truly an eye opening experience. Another rare treat are rare salespeople who can give you BOTH a MEMORABLE and EDUCATIONAL experience. Those are salespeople who are special and worth their weight in gold. For me, to find a salesperson whom I can truly connect with, whom I can rely upon, who makes me a better person by educating me and providing me with a special experience, that's something special, that's something unexpected. And unfortunately that is EXTREMELY rare... Those individuals who are that clever normally realize in short order they can make more money in a different business, they don't have to work weekends, etc. They often leave the retail industry once they have kids since they want to be with their families, many of those individuals are from wealthy households themselves so they don't work for the money, but work because they have a true passion for watches and/or jewelry. I recently met an expert at ION Orchard Mall in Singapore at L'Atelier Hour Glass, Miss Linda was a consummate professional, who anticipated my every need, who knew I was flying into the country to acquire a piece and leave with it via airplane. She arranged everything to the furthest extent she could. Miss Linda also knew her resources and used the ION Orchard Mall's private taxi service to send me and my parcel to the airport, and even helped me navigate the ION Orchard Mall's point system so I could get Mall gift certificates. Miss Linda provided an amazing service, wait, wrong word, not "service," she provided an AMAZING EXPERIENCE and I can't wait to go back to Singapore to buy something from her again.
