Was quite impressed by...............

I stopped to see my friend who manages one of our city's higher end jewelry stores, they carry several lines of watches such as Rolex PP, JLC and Cartier among others. I was saying that my next major watch purchase would most likely be something from JLC, like the Ultra Thin I looked at. He showed me the new watches from Baume & Mercier, the Baumatic line, very impressed by what I saw. I looked at one time and date version with white dial with 5 day power reserve, looked be be a very nice watch for under $3,000. May consider one since it won't be one that will be worn 7 days a week for months on end, as I have several I rotate regularly. I can't deny the JLC is the watch of my dreams right now but the $7,000 price tag on the Ultra Thin I looked at is a bit hard to justify, for me anyway. I looked at a Patek briefly and having a son in medical school I commented that I could put all my sons through medical school for the price of the PP, I said "that's a lot of doctors sitting in that case". The B&M obviously does not have the finishing and movement of the JLC but it may just be what I am looking for for a "part time" watch.

I want an Ultra Thin, just don't know which version or from whom? There's a few out there to pick from.
Superb JLC ..

In platinum.
Yes, they are leagues apart

but for a watch that won't get worn extensively the Baume may not be a bad option, for me anyway. Once my son becomes a doctor I'll tell him I want the JLC for Christmas.
It's all about personal preferences, but there is a saying...

[paraphrasing]: The most expensive watch is the one we compromise to buy. Not true in many situations, of course, and we all live within limited resources, but it's certainly a worthy angle to consider. Cheers, John
