Aged to perfection? .. ! - Sunday Reader

"...The concept that collectors prize originality over restoration is one of the things that many people find most surprising about collecting vintage watches..."

Interesting article for understanding patina for dedicated vintage aficionados at christie's

Listen also to Wei Koh's statement about patina and ageing in beauty.

The recommendation for the aficionado:
Understanding vintage means understanding the beauty of aging with grace. That's certainly not an easy taste, not easy to appreciate, you have to learn it - that will need some time.
Maybe start with something easy, look at Vacheron Constantin Les Collectionneurs.

For me it is a fact you could easily observe, that aged subjects could gain additional beauty. But not any aged watch is desirable, this is misunderstood very often. To explain this attraction with the famous 'Cha Do' (way of the tea) master Rikyo's philo...

More or less Wabi?

Left side got lost some Wabi by exchanging crown (not original spare part), seconds hand (not original spare part), retaining it well with naturally oxided silvered guillauché dial, case and the rest unrestored. Right side got lost some Wabi at the dial b...

I think both pieces are charming!

Wabi, Sabi, Wasabi

Well my Wabi interpretation is certainly as wrong as it could get. What I'm actually looking for is more like, aged with grace. And not to forget, there are Western approaches to this topic as well, I guess even more suitable ones. Aficinados may also thi...

Vacheron & Constantin - ref 4659 'The Crab' in quite rare condition featuring a fantastic dial @ Phillips Watches (on the left side) The same reference with quite much Wabi on the right side. The heavy oxidation would make it less wearable for many af...

You do not follow the thoughts and reason and therefore your understanding is little. It does not make sens for me to talk further.

I just expressed my attitude, my thoughts and judgments maybe not correct, and now I have realized it. But I think it's a public forum where you can reasonably express your opinions, even if they are wrong. Only in constant communication and learning can ...

I understand your commitment because of your purchase

But I'm not in if the discussion is too subjective. If you want to woo a watch, than use instagram or whatever - plenty of audience.

I will be happy to join in the discussion and study
