Ulysse Nardin Stranger and Vivaldi. How interested are you?

In the world of striking watches, you have Minute Repeaters, Grande Sonnerie, Sonnerie en passant, I would also add one Alarm, the Sonata, because it sounds like a minute repeater, and... A music box in a wrist watch.

In fact, there were 2, from Ulysse Nardin. The Stranger in 2013:

And the Vivaldi, in 2015.

I don't remember another brand did that, right now... But with Ulysse Nardin, the unusual is a common place...

What do you think? Is this a concept which pleases you, or do you prefer a chiming watch linked to Time?

Best,

Nicolas

One version plays Rossini, another plays JSBach's badinerie

Magnetically regulated! Now if Breguet just gets that magnetically regulated minute repeater working and we'll be talkin'!

You're welcome, here's some more info.

Here's Breguet's page on the magnetic strike governor: www.breguet.com And here is a purist vid of the Bach version: m.youtube.com

The Stranger functions like the hourstriker in that it plays its tune on the hour or on demand. Unlike the hourstriker it does not chime at the half hour.

Imho the UN has it over the Breguet in that the Breguet is larger on the wrist and the music is softer. Also the UN has the disc for all to see so it is a visual and an auditory delight. It is a joy to wear and to hear. I think that a special version may ...

The Breguet has 30m WR and a liquidmetal resonator

I haven't heard the UN, so I can't compare the two.

That would be quite helpful. (nt)

But quite hefty in price. UN's is nice but could be better in design. Maybe hiding the mechanics of the dial?

And think of the original musical wristwatch: Boegli

www.boegliwatch.ch This manufacturer combined a small automatic ETA movement together with a music drum in a watch case. In 2013, though, Boegli presented its "Zero" with a self-developed, integrated movement with musical mechanism. However, I hav...

How sweet is that!
