I’ve posted both before but what the heck..
Biri, Samar, 2015
Local guides call it the “washing machine”. I wish I could take a few more steps back but was not possible. Took this with my Leica M240 with the 21mm SE. It was part of a series of photographs that made me take a blind leap; switching to the M246 Leica Monochrom. I was intrigued at the BW conversion and asked myself, “what if I had shot this with the Mono?” It was definitely one of my most memorable trips as it was an inflection point in my photography.
Sabtang, Batanes, 2012
From 2007, we’ve been visting this place almost every year. It’s one of the northernmost islands in the Philippines where you can actually view from afar, the southern most tip of Taiwan. This photo is memorable for 2 reasons. It’s the first time I used a Leica on this trip having switched from my DSLR to the M system December of 2011. Secondly, as a bw conversion, it reminds me that if one has the exposure right, it doesn’t really matter what camera one has .. one can take a decent pic. I use this photograph in my bw sessions to point out how far sensors and software have come and that as we go higher up the tech ladder, the more we near the point of diminishing returns. I used a Leica M9-P here with the 35mm Summicron.
Two of the places I hope to visit again
Thanks for looking!
