Moon rise

Jan 10, 2021,05:07 AM

After reading up on moon photography it was time to give it a try: moon rise.

I had prepared well and figured out the ideal location: a long street that was going straight up on the hill. And at moonrise the moon would, according my calculation, be exactly in the extended road.
Well it should have.

But then the unexpected occurre: just as it was getting dark boom powerful flood lights from new construction were switched on. Bye bye location.

Couldn’t resist; drove up, saw the moon behind the tree. The location was ugly but the reason I stayed there is that the construction on the left created some real exposure complications. Add to it that as it got darker the moon would become overexposed and you understand my challenge.

The photos are far from perfect (actually below showcase quality) but posting anyway. Hoping some more experienced photographers can provide some tips fir the next experiment

I’ve done moon shots before but then just the full or half moon against black sky. Bringing in ambient light sunset (sunset and moon rise were only 10 min apart) created a whole new spectrum of variables to consider. Next month the local astrology group (...

sounds interesting! do share your photos if you manage to join.

Hope you’re doing ok and that the situation will soon start to get better instead of worse Ps: I’m scheduled to get my first shot of Pfizer vaccine coming Wednesday.

Impressive

I wouldn't be complaining about those shots.

The different combinations of moon, tree, lighting and construction make interesting statements.

Thanks much appreciated

But focus isn’t as sharp as it can be with my gear plus I was messing around with settings too much to really capture the moment as intended. But that’s part of trial and error and preparation so lessons learned for next month haha

There's a wonderful website "timeanddate (dot) com"

that help place the moonrise (etc.) at the phase... time, and compass direction (factor in the declination) for your location... the full moon is indeed more challenging than the waning or waxing moon... and some say less interesting ; ) One great thing a...

Thanks.
