We had a lovely Barred Owl in our neighborhood trees this summer early on. He was most vocal, hooting his "Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you'all?" at all hours—especially mid-afternoon. I had him in the binocs several times, but my iPhone pics looked as bad or worse than yours. Your 600mm really brings out the beauty of this stately fellow. Marvelous. Many thanks for posting!    FH

I "spotted" this spotted owl taking a siesta under the canopy of our big rubber trees. The crows were squawking around him but couldn't get under there without risk to themselves, so they eventually went away. He stayed put for a nap and a quick grooming ...

Probably a few times each year. I think the owl (from my original post) is normally seen in a big tree a hundred meters or so down the canyon. Here's one I caught on camera about 5 years ago. And this one about 15 years ago, in our pine tree. We have lots...  

I get all those too EXCEPT the owl! Wished I saw more owls!

Nicely captured... the digital zoom seems to produce good results... I guess it was the crows that alerted you... good to see more of your garden. Casey
