Zenith CP 2 Cairelli: 2 pictures, one question.

Nov 07, 2018,14:11 PM

I saw a nice Cairelli on the net, soon to be auctioned by Antiquorum, by the way.

As you can see, it is in mint condition. But that raises a question:

The watch is supposed to be issued to the Italian Army, and to have a military number engraved below " A. Cairelli Roma ".

Something like MM xxx

If I got it well, if the number is not engraved, that means that the watch was not delivered to the Italian Army. Which explains its pristine condition.

When the condition is too good, is it still more interesting?

Personally, I don't think so, and I would much prefer something like this:

Credit pictures: Song.

Here, the military number exists and the scars add some soul and character to a watch which is supposed to have soul and character.

What do you think?

Best,

Nicolas

Unless it was bashing it on an espresso cup or when cleaning sunglasses... it should be pristine.

Considering it's from Antiquorum, one of the worse auction houses....

I'd be very dubious. Antiquorum has been known for the past several years as one of the most dubious watch auction houses. I know of someone who bought a watch from Antiquorum who advertised it as a Lange but then it turned out it was a Laco! This auction...

Ugh! Sorry to read you have had problems too. You have my sympathies and empathy.

When I tell my friends I'm having problems... "They laugh, and they say art collecting is more trouble than it's worth!" Another pipes up, "Problems of the top one percent." And another, "This is why I shop at Ikea; I won't get ripped off too badly." I do...

I'll ad mine to compare ;)
