Thanks to everyone for their replies and insights.  One thing I'm sure of that it's not a typing error.  Here's an earlier extract.  It is also intriguing the dial is not mentioned in the 2003 extract.

Can someone please explain this to me?

Looking at the Extract from the Archives, how was this Reference 2526 sold in 1985? It clearly states the movement was manufactured in 1955, encased and sold in 1985. How did Patek Philippe operate in those days? Was this a special order or did they have ...

I would say it is a typo,

but the year 1955 is on it twice.

If the movement matches with the case number you are all fine

Excluding any typo error which I doubt very much from Patek Philippe! There are 2 possible reasons. 1. The movement was replaced with the same new old stock originally made in 'Date' 2. It was produced with a new old stock movement So long the watch movem...

A 30-year window is very unlikely but in principle possible, though it seems even more unlikely to me for this specific reference.

Reference 2526 was produced through the 1950's in very few pieces (of which less than 500 in yellow gold, the most common metal). The 12-600 movement, historically the first automatic movement made by Patek, as far as I know was also discontinued around t...

Thinking loud, a special 1985 request ? [nt]

I would contact Patek Philippe as get all this cleared

I have heard of this before,

Please follow up with Patek Philippe and let us know what they say. In my reading, I remember mention being made of this type of thing happening. You may have a watch that was re-cased due to the original case being damaged. Patek Philippe was rather a di...

Thats not so uncommon as we might think. Pateks

First PC wristwatch had a similar history. They let movements sit at their workshop forever.

Here you have a similar case i spoke about

...

A similar situation perhaps

Patek Philippe produced the reference 3878J from 1981 to 1998. In 2018, due to a request from a very important customer, they made one more and I happened to come across it at the London Salon as the customer changed his mind. So I guess Patek still had a...

+1, I think that, as rarely as these things happen, this might be the most “likely” explanation, rather than another serial production of the 2526 in the 1980’s👍

I do remember you mentioning this fascinating story (and that you are due to pick up this watch in a few years from now)?👍🥂

Yes you remember well

 By: sham1 : August 25th, 2020-07:46
The watch is being kept in a safe and I aim to collect it by 2024 or 2025. Secretly though or not so secretly, it could happen as early as the end of 2021 but I am being optimistic here.

What a story! [nt]

It is not unheard of Patek to used older movements

 By: DOCSF : August 25th, 2020-03:47
In 2011 they produced limited number of (16) 3670As using 13-130 movements initially produced and regulated in 1955.

+1. Didn't they use one for the 5565?

Or am I totally wrong? I cannot remember... ...

So when was the dial made?

 By: mdg : August 25th, 2020-11:05
...I know the dial is a huge part of the 2526 popularity. NOS?

Hi Just a few points

 By: watch-guy.com : August 25th, 2020-18:17
1. Is the first extract an original one or a copy. I am little sceptical about a few things a The dial is noted as " 2526" that is very strange b. The date of manufacture relates only to the movement- never seen that. cThe case number can be dated from da...

This may sound crazy..

I think I’ve seen that extract before. PM me if you’d like. If it was not that exact watch for sale, then I have absolutely seen a 2526 1955 movement encased in the 80s for sale. It stuck in my head because of how odd it sounded. I believe it’s legit. ...
