5711 in steel versus 5711 in rose. Same basic watch, but at least for me they couldn’t be more different in character.

What I wrote below is pure personal opinion on my part. It is strictly an expression of how I feel, nothing more and nothing less:

The steel version is the ultimate sporty, casual watch. Goes well with any outfit from shorts to jeans to business casual to dress to black tie. A watch for all seasons and reasons. Exceptionally attractive, but beautiful ...  not quite.

The rose on the other hand, especially because of the color of the metal, is not so versatile. (White metal watches to me offer the ultimate versatility.) The  rose calls out for either casual wear with colors that sorta complement the watch, or dress wear. Of course if one goes to the beat of one’s own drummer one can wear it with any outfit or style of dress. Why be bound by convention? My view - anything goes!

The rose is strikingly beautiful with the warm color of the case perfectly matched with the  brown color graduated dial. Chic and light in weight versus say a gold Daytona. Relatively subdued compared to say a gold Submariner. For me it is truly captivating to look at. A very, very pretty watch. Hey, a guy can wear a “pretty” watch - no?

Sport watches and steel make the most sense. When I think of sport watches in gold I think proceed with caution, both in buying and wearing and be prepared for scratches.

That said, why not go for gold and sport if it appeals to you. 5711 in rose appeals to me tremendously.

I am interested in what my fellow Forum members feel about the steel and rose versions of 5711 as well as other Nautilus models offering a gold variant.

Best, patekova

I like the rose gold version. I has it’s own style that you need to be able to carry off. The steel version is far less challenging.

Gold all the way!

I am a proponent of sports watches being in SS although have a few white metal PM models in which to compliment a fairly stellar collection. In the high end market of AP and PP I’d normally take SS over PM indeed only have eyes for SS for the Royal Oak wh...

Some people love the Tiffany. Some people dislike co-branding and think the Tiffany is a negative.

As far as value, to avoid possibly violating Forum guidelines by discussing value, I merely suggest you might get some insight on your inquiry by checking auction results, etc.

metal has its own merits. The steel to me is a very stylish tool watch whereas the R is a watch that makes a "statement" !

Thank you Gordon for your reply!

Fantastic looking watch. I thought it was not as conservative as I like in watches and I prefer white metals for that reason. I also think it suits better skin tones better..a good tan and this watch is a wonderful contrast. I am being dream towards this ...

Yes, I wouldn’t describe it as conservative - but very understated compared to say a YG Submariner.

If you decide to go for it, I hope it works out.

For me....

The RG as a dress watch would be stunning to see.

Thank you for the compliment!

The rose gold case and brown dial which is gradated in color are for me a pretty spectacular combination. Patek definitely got it right.
