all right gentlemen sorry for the delay, it's time to show the community what you consider to be an underappreciated watch
Here is my contribution for this week
Is it a Breguet?
Or maybe a Patek?
What do you all think? It's neither.
This is a unique piece made by an Under appreciated American watchmaker named Gene Clark.
Although Gene could have made the entire watch movement By hand like his pocket watches, he chose to use a vintage Patek ebauche because he considered Patek to be the finest manufacture during his lifetime.
You can see that he disassembled the movement. Refinished with gold guilding heat blued the screws and black polished the escapement In the style of Breguet
The rest of the watch with the exception of the wrist strap was created in Entirely from scratch by Gene Clark without the use of any complex machinery. This includes the case , the crown ,the hands ,and the dial. The engraving was done by Mr. Steven Lindsey. The hand guilloche was turned by Gene himself. Even the rose gold used for the case started out as yellow gold and was alloyed to this specific color by Gene
Actually this particular watch was actually built by Gene for his own personal use however due to his declining health he chose to part with it and use the proceeds for his family
Gene Clark is definitely one of the most under appreciated self taught watchmaker of modern times and also one of the least known since he passed away before the Internet popularized this crazy hobby of ours
All right I'm looking forward to seeing everybody else's under appreciated contributions
Have a good weekend everyone, Mike
