Father's Day Wrist Scan starts . . .
Jun 17, 2022,09:59 AM
. . . now! Let's see the watches our Dads gifted to us, and since it's better to give than receive, the watch in our collection we'd give to Dad.
Dad bought this Seiko Sea Lion . . .
. . . in January '66 and wore it daily until '04 when he handed it over. (It had been serviced just once in all that time!) When he asked how much it cost to service, let it suffice to say he was displeased with my reply.
Pops just couldn't wrap his mind around a service that cost ten times what he paid for it.
The Sea Lion was treated to a second service about eight years later, but became inoperable over time, so it languished for several years before my current watchmaker was able to revive it just a few months ago. There's a current issue with the crown so it's back in his care at the moment; otherwise, this is the watch I'd be wearing this weekend.
At around the same time Dad gave me the Seiko he also passed down his '56 Longines Conquest . . .
. . . that I recently had serviced before turning it over to my nephew Serj. Uncle George gifted the Longines to Dad, so I thought it fitting his grandson, my nephew, should be next in line to own it.
The watch I'd give to Dad would be the most immaculate example in my collection of vintage Omegas.
This ref 2493 chronometer is so well preserved it could easily have a place in Omega's museum. What I wouldn't give to be able to share it with Dad.
Let's see the watches handed down to us in this session of Wrist Scan along with the one watch in our collection we'd gift to our fathers.
Cordially,
Art
