With the benefit of hindsight, there may have been a subliminal need to have the calendar at hand, literally as well as figuratively, that drove my passion for perpetuals. Once the need to affirm calendar time dissipated, so did the urge to wear them. And conversely, the enjoyment derived from simple manual winds grew.
