All right, Purists… Here are my (FH) thoughts.
Jun 30, 2019,16:42 PM
First and foremost—call it cliche if you must—how lucky we all are to participate in such a supportive community! From our uber-experienced moderators to the least (myself, certainly) of us... fellows (male as well as female) in this fascinating forum. Thanks be to all for the generosity of spirit shown here time and again—and daily!
Now… This was a contest and someone has to win. But we all understand that that IS NOT the point. Rather the sharing of various tastes and idiosyncrasies expands our horizons in the most delightful way. And this week's edition of Wristscan certainly did not disappoint. From loud and wild, to the most sedate, the entries speak for the diversity of this community. And that diversity is our greatest strength.
Yet, still… a winner. C'mon, Fred. Don't keep 'em waiting any longer!
So. A few categories.
Photography: How anyone could top HSTE's sub zero photo of the Sinn I can't imagine.
And against the many colors of white, the green—a moss green, rather like an uncovered bit of lichen inadvertently dug up by a foraging animal—is such a surprise! Yet, good-humored—like a wink. Marvelous! Kudos!
Exuberance: Several entries pop out here, especially these Swatch watches, by jml and brauner, recpectively.
But in this category my nod goes to FabR's Patek—an almost outrageous choice that totally works.
One of you called it "flamboyant." A perfect characterization.
Damned Good: Our newcomer notdl impressed me with these two entries (even if one of them may be technically be called "brown").
That gleaming magenta against the stressed leather… Whew! And while the bronzo is nothing out of the ordinary, still, it shows good taste. Well done (and welcome)!
Almost, but not quite: Here, our dear Abel nearly "hits it out of the park," as we say in the States.
But the wind was blowing in, and that held his marvelous Panerai to a triple! Nevertheless… Ladies and Gentlemen: that's an eye for color.
Which bring us to
THE WINNER: Watchonthewrist.
I find this image of the U40 Racing tourbillon absolutely haunting.
And while some may argue that white is the absence of color. Well... Let me put it this way. I once had a friend whose philosophy professor, getting worked up about something one afternoon and finding no perfect way to characterize his thought, let loose with, "When you see the truth, all you can do is shut up and point!"
So there we have it. The most perfect pairing, in my opinion. I could never wear it while driving. I'd run over someone for sure, not being able to take my eyes off of that glorious combi for more than a few moments. The woman across the table would feel slighted. My children would run amuck. You get the picture.
To all who participated in this endeavor, my thanks. To the mod's kind invite to judge, I tip my humble hat. I only hope that I have not disappointed in this long answer to a simple question. And though the majority of you may be used to time zone difficulties sometimes leading to such delays, again an apology for this tardy posting.
Have a marvelous week ahead, all! Warm regards, Fred Halgedahl
