For those of us who don't like dates, Montblanc has an answer - the Vintage Tachydate

Oct 14, 2017,05:50 AM

Not everyone amongst us here is fully convinced that adding a date onto a mechanical non calendar watch is a feature, in spite of what watch manufacture marketing departments tend to tell us. This goes doubly so for chronographs.

Yet there is the odd exception and I feel confident in claiming that many members will not be disappointed in how the date has been applied by Montblanc in its Vintage Tachydate model from the Villeret line.

Like with most Villeret pieces, the view from behind is at least as enticing as the one from the front. The movement in this rose gold version is of the conventional colouring, not having the rose gold plated components of the 1858 Tachymeter bronze.  Still, there is nothing to be said against the MB 16.29 base - or put differently it's simply sublime.

On the wrist it hides its size well - the lug design and placement both conspire to make it perfectly wearable for those of us with smaller wrists.

Overall a great watch, and one where the date definitely should not bother more than the very adamant rejectors.

The warm dial colour, the heat blued hands and the red detailing (especially for the seconds hand), the rose gold case... all conspire to make this an excellent piece.

Thanks to the Montblanc Boutique Vienna for a fabulous event and their - as always - impeccable hospitality!

Now those who would turn this down because of the date, raise your hands! wink

Have a great weekend!

Would you turn this one down though?

And the date numbers.

My developing presbyopic eyes can't see them easily with a quick glance.

You seem serious...

So carrying a loupe with, for the date - and for checking that the movement lost none of its appeal - could that be an option?

That will do :-) [nt]

Glad you like it, even though you own a non-date cousin

It was my first Villeret from Montblanc (I chose the WG version but the RG is soon to follow) ...

Well, I have only one Montblanc watch, but what a watch...
