advice on the new 1858 split second chronograph
Jun 13, 2020,02:31 AM
Dear All,
I had the opportunity to see the Montblanc 2020 novel 1858 split second chronograph in the MB boutique today.
My initial feelings are as follows:
1. The Minerva movement is gorgeous as expected. Polishing of the movement is exceptional. Activation of the primary chronograph hand is a bit stiff, but the activation of split second chronograph hand is much smoother and buttery like.
2. The titanium case is whiter than I expected, almost like steel case, The white metal makes the 44mm case looks "smaller" on wrist.
3. Enamel grand feu dial has a bright blue colour, not as appealing as navy blue. The graduation of colour is also not obvious in indoor lighting. It actually looks homogenous.
4. I would prefer the second chronograph hand and small numerous in red colour instead of orange.
Having said that, the price tag is still attractive for a Rattrapante chronograph of a haute horlogerie manufacture. I am seriously considering acquire my first MB reference with this one.
Your insightful advice would be much appreciated.
Best,
Henry
