Lange 101.027

Where to start with this one?

Not that it's particularly interesting, but let's start by saying that this acquisition is by far the largest I've made in my journey as a collector. Not that it was intimidating, nor that it yielded extra doubts during the process but still - waow - it was another level for me.

Let's continue with even more un-interesting prose. To give further context, this acquisition comes after a phase of horological soul-searching and collection re-organisation. In short, I was keen to explore higher-end watches along with their improved finishing, details and lower production numbers. In this journey, I welcomed a Moser Streamliner and now a Lange 1. While the bond was sealed immediately with the Moser, I'm surprised that it's been different with the Lange. Different...not bad.

We really started our relationship after one month together. At first, I described her as being a little shy, capricious and even restrained. There was even a day when I refered to her personality as "cold". However, things have changed and, of course, it wasn't until I saw her on another man's wrist that I started to love her...yes, this is so so typical...!

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that the Lange 1 is a watch whose beauty unravels itself slowly, rather than at first sight. It's probably because it's very sophisticated and that it takes a pair of trained eyes that are decades old to absorb all of a Lange 1 in a single glance. The metals, the polishing, the welding, the engraving, the movement architecture with its charming little islands, hidden details, the dial layout and vanishing blues...there's a lot to take in and it might have been overwheleming. In any case, though our relationship is still in its adolescence, the Lange's place in my collection is sealed and makes perfect sense. I look forward to many more years on the wrist!

We should probably leave it here for today before this turns into an epic love novel. I promise more pictures of the backside...sorry, I mean, the movement to illustrate further what I meant above.

Thanks for reading and happy weekend!

I also own a Lange 1 and, as you know, is a very iconic watch with a very understated personality. I did wear mine a lot (much more than other watches in my collection). It is certainly a big investment but worth! I am confident that you will enjoy it a l...

this is why it is now sold out pretty much everwhere is a great watch

with a lot of price value. Given the finish, the hairspring and totally in house movement I don't think the H. Moser has anything less than the lange

very well said!

My journey into the real high end of things began with Lange

A white gold hand wind Saxonia, purchased in honor of receiving my doctorate. No, let's say: in honor of *earning* my doctorate! Of course the 'high end watch ownership' thing has only gotten worse since then, and a number of Langes have come and gone (in...

You should give these photos to A Collected Man (the website), as they would share your cool aesthetic!

Pure horological romance ...

(or "horomance" shall we call it) indeed ... sometimes approaching x-rating 😉, but I enjoyed reading it! Post more graphic details whenever you get a chance! 😅😅😅

Beautifully taken pictures....

Felt the same with the 1815: took me months and even more to not just appreciate the object but actually love the watch. Now I'm waiting to wear it when it's not on my wrist...
