A Time Only Pair

Feb 18, 2021,18:44 PM

Some of you will recall I sold my only Lange (Dato U/D) a few years ago, in part to justify the addition of another piece from Journe.   It was the right decision for me at the time, and I’ve not second guessed it as the “new to me” Journe has commanded a lot of wrist time since.

That said I have been eager since to find something else (Lange) which might appeal.

And so I arrived at not one but two, an itch well and truly scratched with this time only pair.

This particular 1815 has been something I’ve thought about purchasing several times since it’s release.  The combination of the Honeygold case and the eggshell textured or granular finished dial is really a very appealing combination to me.

The Richard Lange is maybe a controversial one, given its unexpected appearance after the initial PT and RG limited editions with the enamel dials.  Jokingly one might even refer to it as the “Richard Lange Pour le Mérite Once Again” !

For me it’s the most casual of the three and so it is the obvious choice in terms of day to day wearability.

All that is needed now are some custom straps to dress both of these down a little.

The HG was a big deciding factor in this piece for me.

My understanding is that the HG is more difficult to work with, presumably due to it being a little harder than YG or RG. That in itself shouldn’t be a reason for not producing more but I wonder whether or not they believe a higher price for HG, versus RG...

Congrats Jay on this neat duo, I especially like the 1815 -- a most classy way to come back to Lange... and to celebrate 5k on WatchProSite! :-)

Thanks again for this and all your other knowledgeable, interesting, and thought-provoking contributions to our forum!! Cheers.

Very nice! I really like your tastes!

As you may recall, I especially like your Urwerk tastes!

Haha, yes indeed Patrick.

These two in some respects are timeless. The case size perhaps being the only thing I would wish was different (a few mm smaller would be perfect).

I especially like the 40mm 1815.

I'm actually looking for a 40mm 1815 in white gold (like Jocke's). Great watch, beautifully large. German watches can be forgiven to be big! I've strapped on the Richard Lange PLM in platinum on several times and I did find it a tiny bit thick, but I have...

Wow, that is quite an itch indeed!

Congratulations and very appropriate for your 5K posts milestone.

You're right, happy 5000 posts!

How did I miss that! Good catch Clueless_Collector!

Excellent watches and photos!

As always, Lange rewards sharp photographic angles with stunning three-dimensionality!

Please do so!

Both the Lange are great one

Thanks Mahesh.

Two marvellous three handed watches

 By: emcquillan : February 18th, 2021-21:38
The fusee chain PLM is a stunning movement and to see how thin the chain in outside the movement is a marvel. My favourite three hander. The 1815 I’ve owned in white gold, but this egg shell dial with honey gold may be the finest edition.... maybe tied wi...

Thank you. It’s incredible to see, and to consider the weight Lange claim it can support.

It also has a good claim to being the ultimate time only piece, albeit with stiff (and different) competition from some others. This 1815 for me is hard best for the very reason you point out, that combination of metal and dial colour and texture.

That’s a very strong come back, Jay!

Such a lovely duo! These two are much more wearable than the Dato. Can’t wait to see them in person

Thanks. Yes, I agree these two are an easier wear than the Dato.

Hopefully we’ll get to do some meet-ups later this year.

Congrats Jay! 🥂🥂🥂

Nice choice on the duo... I, on the hand, have the Richard Lange platinum and always wanted to buy the Dato Up/Down. 🤣 enjoy your watches in good health.

That’s the way it goes, right? We are all moving in different directions.

I can’t say any bad words about the Up/Down. I very much enjoyed it and it got a lot of wrist time.

A great duo!

Two fantastic watches. Same "genes" but still very different.

As Nico mentions, what a superb post for your 5 K milestone !

Thank you.

There are some other power duos in Lange which I can think off, but these two are right up there too.

What a way to celebrate the 5k 👍

Love both, the RL even more. Enjoy them for a long time to come.

Thank you. When it comes down to it one can’t deny the appeal of the RL.

It’s a very special watch and can be the crown on any collection.

Congrats! Classic time only, but so much more going on here!

 By: BigAppleBill : February 19th, 2021-08:42
You are curating quite an impressive collection!

Thanks Bill.

 By: Jay (Eire) : February 19th, 2021-13:08
There was some collateral damage in acquiring these two; one notable (or perhaps these days notorious may be more apt) piece was sacrificed! (Not one we talked about however).

A sacrifice from the collection is always acceptable as the collection improves.

That honey gold 1815 is a great piece. And to also pick up its cousin at the same time is a nice move! The most important aspect is that you will enjoy wearing these pieces. (And they’re very easy to wear!)

Fantastic pieces Sir!

Ang great photos, too!

Love the RL PLM!

Both of them are lovely, but I do hope the Datograph finds its way back to you. I can’t help but think the Datograph has a special place in the history of our watch world. Best Gatsby

You are right of course. And I got good mileage from the Dato, it was never a safe queen at least on office days!

 By: Jay (Eire) : May 8th, 2021-20:33
I thought hard about letting it go, but you know how it goes when money doesn’t grow on trees. Something had to give to make the other acquisition happen and the Datograph made most sense as the sacrifice at that time. Making the same decision today I may...

:-)

Great response mate...in any case it’s the journey that matters, not the final destination.

Thank you Sir.

When are you going to throw some casual straps on these two???

 By: Darron : May 9th, 2021-04:35
😀... I got some saffiano leather coming in and I hope it does the trick.
