WristScan 3/23/2017 theme: Time Flies

Mar 23, 2017,18:04 PM

Hi everyone,   Sorry for the late start this week.  Work was challenging to say the least.

The theme this week will be "Time Flies"

Please share a picture of your favorite "flieger" or "pilot" watch!

Here is my Vintage Limes Nightflight.  38mm, nice lume, knurled bezel, and onion crown...perfect German flieger!

Looking forward to seeing what is in your collection.

Again my apologies,

Mike

I guess it can be considered a pilot's watch since it one pilots a boat towards a destination! HAGWE, Mike

Love this Rainbow...

Another brand I will need to look up I only have one pilot's watch and it's a bit different from what you intended, I guess... Still, here goes. For the static a picture I made for my 20th anniversary of acquiring a pilot's license And for the wrist shot ...

Very appropriate and probably a better watch to go with my introductory picture

 By: mkt33 : March 24th, 2017-06:32
Since Commander Kelly wore a Breitling on his STS missions

Thanks Mike! :) [nt]

When I was young and serving in the RAF in 1960's I was issued with a number of the Omega 1953 Pilot watches (in succession) during my time as a pilot. When I retired from service, I had to give the last watch back! When I saw one for sale by a fellow pur...

How about an actual pilot's watch, from a real pilot who received this watch in 1967 upon his graduation!

 By: timerider : March 24th, 2017-09:53
I was so delighted to see your theme this week. This one comes with the Attestation from the Breguet archive in Paris (home to A. L. Breguet's notebooks--a must see sometime) that this 1967 watch is authentic and as "presented" to its original owner. So, ...

great suggestion Sir!

 By: timerider : March 24th, 2017-10:44
.

Very nice...

 By: mkt33 : March 24th, 2017-10:52
How did you know that the original owner was a pilot? Is it a family piece? I think I would agre with Nicolas...A light tan calf would look nice. Cheers, Mike

Super!

Yes, yes & triple Yesss !.. That 2777 is a real Military treasure.. Love that patination, which turned into light brown !

 By: hs111 : March 26th, 2017-03:38
.. To make the long story short: Maybe a bit smallish in size, but big in pleasure, great watch in presence ! Cheers, dear J ! hs.

Does this count . . .

 By: Dr No : March 24th, 2017-11:13
. . . as a flieger , Mike? Not exactly what first comes to mind - a B-uhr is more like it - but a pilot's watch nonetheless. The one I'd like to have is an RAF '53 Ī© ref 2777. Our prior Omega forum moderator owns a sterling example. [photo and watch credi...

The Omega "counts"

 By: mkt33 : March 24th, 2017-18:01
afterall it has the words FLIGHTMASTER on the dial I remember Bill's watch, thanks for reminding me. And yes impossible to find! Thanks for contributing Art, Mike

Bold & a bit bulky charm of your 70ies multi-color piece.. And that Omega '53/ Ref 2777 is one of these superb pleasures.. :))

 By: hs111 : March 26th, 2017-03:34
.. for me a real time-machine, which could tell a lot of stories of times long passed by.. Best for your further Sunday & your upcoming week ! Cheers, hs

My hope is that Omega will settle on the ref 2777 . . .

 By: Dr No : March 26th, 2017-10:14
. . . as the next model to pay homage to. Make it as close to the original as possible, and manual winding . . . I wouldn't be able to resist. Art

Apologies accepted Mike.....

Big fan of this particular dial design for the MOD!

I mean

 By: dylan61 : March 25th, 2017-04:41
The equivalent dial that Breitling made.. Not sure if it\'s termed a Mark 11

I was hoping to see one in this thread - high . . .

 By: Dr No : March 25th, 2017-12:08
. . . coolness factor and subtle, with that je ne sais quoi a monopusher brings. They don't pop up often enough, that's for sure. Art

Thanks..

 By: dylan61 : March 25th, 2017-18:25
.. For your kind words my friend. Indeed it\'s an under appreciated and less commonly seen watch, and I\'m very happy to have found mine.

 By: hs111 : March 26th, 2017-03:23

Hm, not really into Pilot watches

 By: crown comfort : March 25th, 2017-01:32
Hi Mike, great theme even I'm lacking a bit the right watch for it. However, I take the liberty to interpret it a bit wider and suggest that any of the below Chronographs would be a worthy fit for any pilot. HAGWE, CC ...

Sure why not!

 By: mkt33 : March 25th, 2017-02:23
Is that an Olimpico on the last photo? Thanks for contributing this week Best Mike

Woohoo dear CC !.. These first 2 shots are simply splendid, so are the watches.. That Chrono Olimpico is something to love & cherish ! :))

 By: hs111 : March 26th, 2017-03:08
.. Pls bring it with you next time we meet; guess I haven\'t seen that in real ! - Love the Tachymeter engraved on the bezel.. And the 1st pic also renders a super-cool black-dial Tonneau Chrono ! Is this a Richeville ? ( Sorry my ignorance, BTW !) Furthe...

Thanks, dear HS

 By: crown comfort : March 26th, 2017-06:07

First flieger

 By: Geo : March 25th, 2017-06:25
Originally created in 1904 by Cartier for the aviator Santos Dumont. The re issue in the middle comes very close to the original version. ...

Nice triplet. I really like the salmon dialed version

 By: mkt33 : March 25th, 2017-11:05
Thanks Geo for sharing Mike

. . . and not only the first . . .

 By: Dr No : March 25th, 2017-12:13
. . . flieger . Likely the first modern wristwatch per se , no?

I honestly thought it was

 By: Geo : March 26th, 2017-12:05
Do you know what was the first flieger? GEO

Longines Lindbergh? . . .

 By: Dr No : March 26th, 2017-12:26
. . . just a wild guess on my part . . .

But was'nt the Longines later than 1904?

 By: Geo : March 27th, 2017-00:11
That Santos was really early when it crossed the sea.

Oh, yes, definitely later - late '20s, if not mistaken. On the other hand, the Santos . . .

 By: Dr No : March 27th, 2017-13:15
. . . was intended for pilots, but was it a flieger ? In the notional sense, is what I'm trying to get at. To put it another way, the Santos was primarily a pilots watch at a time when there were few, if any, other categories. Once the field of various ty...

Thank you Cazalea!

 By: Watchobserver : March 26th, 2017-06:06
It really is a great piece, and it never goes unnoticed!

I think I have to agree with CAZALEA on this one...I always leaned away from IWC perpetuals

 By: mkt33 : March 25th, 2017-11:08
because the dial was too cluttered. This version is perfect! Thanks. Mike

Thanks Mike!
