The upper picture looks like a Tourbillon escapement to me.

I am speechless. And you do not just build an escape wheel, do you? It has to be a fragile piece of art! You really amaze me. From the second picture I could only guess main spring barrel, but really unsure. Impressed, Martin

Well, you do build an escape wheel sometimes :)

With a help of a friend with laser cutter. These were designed by me as well as the palletless pallet fork, cut out a bit oversized and will be brought down to final dimensions in a carbide jig i made. Not really handmade escapement, but it's my own The p...

Tourbillon with complication

 By: skyeriding : July 18th, 2017-21:08
The first pic shows a typical tourbillon cage/base, as the balance wheel sits in centre and pallet fork is offset sideways with the escapement sitting on the same base. It is a two-spoked tourbillon bridge. Interestingly, the geometry of the teeth of the ...

You are almost right :)

I'll reveal more as i'm building parts and putting them in the mainplate. You guys like suspense, right? Ondrej

Escapement steel on steel ?

 By: DonCorson : July 18th, 2017-23:10
We, of course, need to see the scale of this. Is this going to be one big monster tourbillon? 25mm dia balance wheel? I can't wait to see more. But are you sure you want to have steel pallets? Steel on ruby has much, much less friction. Oh, or is that a s...

A smaller than my first two actually,

 By: Ondrej Berkus : July 18th, 2017-23:24
the balance wheel is going to be 12.5mm and the whole tourbillon is less than 15mm. I plan on using a 42mm cage The escape wheel is made out of tool steel and the fork is made from titanium. That is, for friction, the worst combination ever. Until the for...

42mm case is what I meant. [nt]

questions and concerns, Just what is DLC ? How is it applied and how long will it last in daily use ? Will you polish the acting part of the teeth. The escape wheel while it looks attractive, appears to have considerable mass and as you know tourbillons a...

Thank you for the questions :)

Now, the DLC ( short for diamond like carbon ) is a coating that's applied in a vacuum plasma chamber and is consisted of both diamond and lead particles of carbon - hence the black color, hardness and self lubricating properties. They use this stuff on c...
