The first chronometry trial of the 21st century will be held next year. The following is the invitation for contestants. Thanks to Magnus Bosse for the heads-up! It will be interesting to follow this through the next year. We can only support this and hope that it will not just be a one-shot affair, and in the future include Japan too. The first night race in the world, F1 is to open in sept 2008. note the white visors, not black/tinted. These are the 50 pieces to be issued on that day! Collectable for sure. Numbered as 1/50, NO other numbers at all. 1 of 50!!! Now, the quality of the dials are quite exceptional. The white carbon fibre. Note the on going sailor version is more complex... The old Mickey dials are no match in terms of mult... more

I recently posted a topic about the Grande Memovox, an appealing perpetual calendar with its platinum case and its deep blue dial...It gave me the idea to make a comparative post about JLC Perpetual Calendars...This A.L 8 Days Perpetual is, for me, one of the more elgant and very nicest JLC Perpetual CalendarIt corresponds more to the view I have of a classic and timeless piece. The platinum case ( All the A.LECOULTRE watches have a platinum case ), is 41,5mm large, traditionnaly designed, with som... more

This Green Mil Gauss is a surprising watch.I remember my thoughts when I saw it first in pics, last year during the Basel Fair...I found it strange, a bit freakie with all these colors, and not that appealing...Till my AD gave me a call to ask me to pay him a visit, with a surprise ....It was the surprise. Not that I find it very appealing nor beautiful. But the Mil Gauss has something, especially in this version... This is in fact a funny watch, which makes it interesti... more

I know many of you have seen the animated ad for Montres Jaquet Droz on the forum. How do I know this? Because of the number of emails I've received asking me to explain how it is possible for Jaquet Droz to be celebrating it 270th anniversary! Well, here is the fact. In 1738 Pierre Jaquet Droz set up his first horological workshop at a farm called Sur Le Pont in La Chaux de Fonds. At the time there was no such thing as the modern day wristwatch. Pierre Jaquet Droz excelle... more

Dear enthusiasts, new for 2008 are these additions to GP´s Lady WW.TC, the popular world timer which was re-designed to fit the female wrists: The newly added variations include fully paved cases in pink or white gold, with genuine mother-of-pearl dials in different matching colours an satin fabric straps. Another variant, which already is quite in demand, is the "WW.TC Shopping" we´ve covered earlier - the "shopping zones" in 3 different variations make for a fun accessory,... more

Last week, I had the opportunity to see and admire another great Chrono, one of those you / we never think about when we speak about prestigious pieces...The Senator Rattrapante! This is true, we always speak of the PP 5070, the Chrono Malte from Vacheron, the JLC Duo Metre A Chronographe or, of course, of the Lange Datograph...And never, or quite never, of this GO!This is not fair, as this Chrono is a beautiful example of the sense of the finish of the German Watchmaking...First, a gorgeous, not to... more

At the Beginning of the 60ies, or at the end of the 50ies, some manufactures released very nice Diving Watches, like Vulcain with its Nautical, JLC with the Deep Sea Alarm, Enicar with the Super Divette, the Sherpa, etc, with this specificity that there were 2 crowns watches, with an inside bezel. Of course, I'm not saying that the diving watches appeared only in the beginning of the Sixties, as Panerai launched in 1936 the Cali, and some famous brands were competiting on this thema since 1953... more

This is IMHO the nicest, the most elegant Memovox ever made!I had the opportunity to get one for some days, and to take some pics to share with you all. And, although I already knew that I loved it, now I know that I need it!The Memovox ref E 855, is IMHO a timeless watch, and with the black dial and these thin and long embossed indexes, this version is just gorgeous.Look at these curves, at these proportions and volumes, Did you notice the slightly domed plexy, which enhances the ch... more

F.P.Journe Chronomètre Souverain By Christophe Persoz There's no doubt about the watch tested for this edition — it's in the major league. The Chronomètre Souverain by François-Paul Journe is certainly among the great classics of Geneva watchmaking. It doesn't look like a gasworks and there's no flashy yet useless complication to distract attention from any deficiency. Exterior: I have had the frequent opportunity to test watches for this column with ca... more

First, a natural look at the 303 after 5 days on my wrist, including the times I played the MDT with pals! Now, the Morrison Digital Trumpet is one awesome machine. But look at the 303!!! In natural light, the Bulgari words appear as a design, the change of font alone was enough..but what the heck.. If you don't have hIGH speed load up, this is one post worth the wait for the pics below! There are very few dials abd work that is THIS good...at any price. Have a look! Note that... more
