VC - am I missing something?
Nov 29, 2016,15:44 PM
With the acquisition of the Overseas Chrono I've completed the holy trinity in my watch collection and couldn't be happier. Being the latest I've kept this one on my wrist for the last 2 weeks and I have to say I've had more compliments on it that any of the other 28 watches (many have moved on) I have worn and owned over my 8 years collecting. My first instinct to snap this up was a love affair with the stunning blue dial, the Chrono function, the leather strap and trinity placement also helped me make the choice but last but not least the price just seemed to good to be true for a minty 12month old watch.
It is there that I am most confused. What is it with VC that despite their obvious status in haute horologie and trinity standing that makes the price tank quicker than the other two.

Prefer these to the current model, aesthetically. In blue, my fave. Why do some brands enjoy great resale and others, no less deserving, do not? It's a riddle. But a quick answer is 'the watch mafia'. THEY hype certain brands and models, because they are ...
Wonderful Overseas :)

As for missing something, most brands have lines with not so great resale values. Could be many reasons - supply exceeds demand, too optimistic pricing in the first place, the watch aged too quickly... If I look at VC, it seems that Patrimony and Traditio...
Absolutely agree :)

One of the reasons I really like my Chopard LUCs and Grand Seikos for And VC would tick that box, too.
I agree, its not just about brand but

models within a brand. In general modern watches loose value when bought new then may gain somewhere down the line. However, many are under the impression that such and such brand hold their value because of some record breaking prices at auction, but the...
I hate to speculate about the 'value' of a watch,

As this depends on a large number of variables. But, I love the blue on the new VC Overseas. It is a wonderful, deep shade that changes depending on the angle. Congratulations on the new acquisition.
Such a beautiful watch

The new models are quite beautiful too. It is a shame that the watches lose significant value, but my philosophy is to wear what I like and not worry too much about resale value. If I do lose money when selling down the road I hope that the enjoyment I ha...
My opinion on this topic is I feel the VC Overseas

sport watches arent designed with a mass market appeal. I feel the Overseas case, dial, and look is too conservative for a sports watch. That's how I feel about this watch and why it isnt on my to-buy-list when it comes to watches in this segment. AT

depreciate at least 50 percent of what you paid. It is driven by supply and demand of course, but most folks who can afford luxury watches want to buy new. Ergo, the hit.
Agreed,

Some are clearly worse than others however but watches such Rolex, Patek and many AP sports fair typically better. Ultimately we buy because we like and unless we are serial flippers that should be all that matters, for me that is certainly the case and t...
