Vacheron Corps of Engineers - Dial Configuration?

Mar 19, 2017,07:18 AM

Came across what looks like a very clean (perhaps too clean...) V&C Corps of Engineers Pocket watch for sale, but am concerned about the dial configuration. On every example I've ever seen online, the "USA" appears right after the words "Corps of Engineers," not centered below them like on the one I'm considering. Can anyone give me some comfort that this isn't unheard of, or alternatively, let me know that this is indeed not an original dial. Watch number is in the 10,500 range. Movement number is in the 380xxx range. Case number is in the 226xxx range. Thanks in advance.

I got your pm, thanks for sharing this interesting piece. The inventory number is within the range for V&C half-chronometer Corps of Engineers watches. From your snips, I can see two points where this watch varies from the standard pattern but with V&...

Thanks

Just PM'd you some additional info on the piece, and would be glad to share our (your...) findings with the group after some additional detective work!

An ambiguous conclusion

To summarize; Mark has learned VC won't provide an Extract based on the serial numbers. OTOH, the case and movement conform with Corps half-chronometer watches in every detail, so perhaps this watch is a composite. The dial is another matter. It has the a...

Thanks for the Detective Work!

Tick Talk has been very gracious with his time and expertise, which I genuinely appreciate. The watch looks sharp, and if I had to guess, the movement and case are genuine V&C, but it's pretty clear to me - after hours of digging online for similar exampl...
