Suggestions to VC for their new sub-brand name

Nov 16, 2017,20:41 PM

With rumors that VC will head down market to stimulate sales, I'd like to remain positive.  That is, positive it will be a catastrophe for the brand if they stick the name of Vacheron Constantin on 2nd quality timepieces, not to mention against historical precedence.

Perhaps those of us who really care about these things can suggest another name?  Drawing from their 260 years of history, or entirely new and future-focused; lets hear your ideas.  I know it will be tempting to add some humor, and perhaps a few hashtags, but to start things off I'm nominating....drum roll....

J.M. VACHERON

The brand founder Jean Marc Vacheron started at the bottom of Geneva's watchmaking hierarchy, just a cabinoteer and his apprentice.  From humble beginnings he provided for his son and future generations of the family to establish themselves in a very competitive environment.  It would be a fitting tribute to VC's roots if this name was resurrected for a new sub-brand launched in similar circumstances.

Alright, let's hear your suggestions smile

WTH is a hashtag? Is that something to do with LVMH or related to a hash brown?

Vacheron – they couldn’t afford to print Constantin on the dial as well. Leaving it off the letterheaded paper also saved on ink costs, so an additional financial benefit. V C Heap – think about it. VC Lite I Can’t Believe It’s Not Vacheron Constantin – d...

Not sure sub-branding is the right approach. If you do it too well, you finish up competing against your core! Think Pelagos so much better than Sub etc. They could alway just reduce prices back to sensible levels, i.e. what the pieces actually go for.......

I agree with you. Tudor has several watches in the catalog which can seriously compete with their crowned siblings. The Black Bay with the in house Tudor movement, for example.

In the same vein than the Pelagos you mentioned. Like you, I am not sure at all that it is a good idea ( read I ma sure it is a bad one ). For a brand like Vacheron. Best, Nicolas

Humor, sarcasm, reflections, predictions; quite an array of feelings on this subject. Maybe SIHH will reveal the grand plan. The sub-brand could be differentiated with non-Manufacture movements, decorated and adjusted to an acceptable level. To avoid nega...

VC is not its own company

it's under Richemont group. If Richemont needs to grow sales (thru more accessible watches), it can always create or acquire a new brand which sells watches at a lower price point. From a biz standpoint, there is no need for Richemont to create a sub bran...

Some other Richemont brands have moved into Costco

FWIW, that Canadian $1,499.99 is $1,175 US dollars. ...

Exactly . Leave such positioning to the other Richemont brands

Montblanc , B&M, Dunhill even Cartiers or IWCs. No need for them to let VC have a sub brand for accessible watches !

We know. We're having a laugh in any case :)

Many a true word spoken in jest though... Still doesn't stop some brand meddling though. I'm thinking Vacheron Constantin 'Club' watches. Euwwww. Velo
