Pre SIHH 2018: Ulysse Nardin Marine Torpilleur Military... X 2!

Nov 08, 2017,03:14 AM

After a very short teasing, here are some excellent and exciting news.

Ulysse Nardin is unveiling a watch 2 months before the SIHH 2018: The Marine Torpilleur Military. And not only one, but two versions.

To be more precise, the case is the same, 44 mm, steel sandblasted, with a solid case back on which is stamped a Torpilleur Boat.

Two dials are available, an eggshell, or a black.

One thing I wondered is what C.W stands for... I had the answer through the official press file: " Chronometer Watch ".

The Marine Torpilleur Military is water resistant to 50 meters.

Inside is beating the in house Ulysse Nardin movement, the Cal 118, whose ancor escapement is made of silicium.

Of course it is a Chronometer, certified by the COSC.

The good news is that the price is not too high: 7900 Euros.

The bad news is that we don't have an enamel dial... I would have so much loved to have one in that watch! But the price wouldn't have been the same...

Here are the official pictures.

Looking forward to reading your comments and thoughts,

Best,

Nicolas

l like the sandblasted case it looks very unusual. I think I prefer the white version as I'm not sure about the colour of the hands and numerals on the black one. I presume the hands are luminous but it looks a bit strange. I love the impressive engraving...

I think here it is the real impression of the watch in your hand ...

... or on your wrist that will make the difference. Especially the black version has the potential to be a real winner, but can also be a bit boring - from the press pics, both is possible. I would be intrigued by the luminosity of the hands, but generall...

Lots of positives, Nico, and a curious inclusion, for me

The case size, shape, textures - all nice. No date, and no silly inclusion "AUTOMATIC" on the dial. Thank you UN for that! No enamel? I do not mind that, as UN is now using this on so many models, and has marketed the Torpilleur as more of an entry timepi...

So much for the doom and gloom of a new CEO! Hopefully this is just a glimpse of positive things to come.

I see UN as being in a great position right now. I like this "pre-SIHH" release a lot.

Yes, I concur. [nt]

Thanks for the presentation

I would have liked a smaller size to make the dial more balanced but I am very happy that they removed the date window. Fx

Is this a good thing? See through case backs are most of the time a marketing thing not justified by some horological interest.

When it comes to movements such as the Datograph, Villeret Minerva or Duometres, here I see the point. But for a movement whose decoration is not exceptional.... I don't see the point. In my opinion... Best, Nicolas

Very nice.

Specifically, I like the Arabic numerals, no date, and blasted steel case finishing. My preference is the egg shell dial, but as a novelty I'd wear the black "Halloween dial" in a heartbeat. UN is doing a nice job reaching out to a broader customer base w...

Special Pieces. I like the finish of the case. The size and fit a little too big for me. For the smaller Torpilleurs will be rubber strap!
