Urwerk launches the UR 201
Jan 19 2007,02:29 AM

Exceptional, amazing, sublime, aweinspiring...my vocabulary of superlatives will run dry by the time I can finish describing the new Ur 201 nicknamed Hammerhead.

Does it make you think of the Opus V? Well yes there are revolvng cubes which act as hour indicators...but that's it!

So follow me and lets try to find out what this beauty offers.

First lets introduce the team:

Felix Baumgartner the technical mestermind of Urwerk:

Martin Frei the Designer extraordinnaire:

Yacine Sar:, the lovely head of PR:

Max Büsser was also there

The Ur 201 comes in a case reminiscent of the 103 but shorter and slightly larger. The hours are indicated via 3 sets of cubes which revolv as to indicate the hours. In the Opus V their revolution was made in one step where as here it is done in 3 seperate ones.

A needle sticks out of the cube when it reaches the 0 on the minutes graduation on the bottom of the dial and will lenghthen or retract as to follow perfectly the minutes graduation.

A power reserve (5 days!) is indicated on the left and an AM/PM indicator is on the right.

Notice the central rotating hub? We were told it is even more expensive to create due to its numerous reliefs and overall shape that certain movements!

In all the team at Urwerk has been working on this project for over 3 years and according to Felix Baumgartner in terms of difficulty of execution its pretty close to that of a minute repeater!

Catch your breath and let's have a look at the back.

The habitual "relulation" screw is there and has been revamped and 2 new functions appear. The "oil gauge" which will indcate when the watch will need to be serviced and something which ressembles an podometer of a car meaning it will indicate the number of years the watch has been working!

Money and Trees. . . And Then There Are Watches
Jan 19 2007,09:37 AM

Re-forestation seems to be the call of the day.  Smile.  It's all about budgeting here. . . or better said, how to introduce as little chaos into the budget.  I did make a call today and was given a range and told that the price was not yet set.  Alas, more chaos.

Is it safe to say the cost is 103.03? Or are we looking at >Opus 5?
Jan 19 2007,11:59 AM

Surely someone must know that.  Ian?

Jan 19 2007,12:02 PM

"Wow!" is an understatement for this. Impressive in both technology and packaging.

Honestly, 103.3 is more beautiful!
Jan 23 2007,23:01 PM

In my very personal wiev there are 103.3 and Opus V. I love to have any of them, but this, it's to me, pure amateur, when it comes to Urwerk, overkill.

Sorry, but this is still a place for different opinions?

It's a fantastic watch, no doubts, if it had been the first, but not now... Just my reactions.

I have really been thinking hard for several days, and I still don't know if I should have written this :-)

But I did, since I have heard so much before I saw it, and really had some thoughts...

Sorry again.
