Hot New Rolex line up 2017

Mar 22, 2017,04:18 AM

What have they done!  a Sea-Dweller with a date magnifier and 43mm case size!

A rubber strap on a Daytona!

And a Regatta Chrono

and a new Sky Dweller in two tone.

Nothing spectacular in my opinion

43mm red sea dweller...

 By: Harry2 : March 22nd, 2017-05:16
With cyclops. If Rolex do surveys, I think they\'re are some participants with a hilarious sense of humour. "If we were to introduce the watch everyone wants with our brilliant new movement inside, should we keep it at 40mm?" "Absolutely not! They\'d hate...

Agree

 By: RuK : March 22nd, 2017-05:45
Yes it could be hot if the cyclopse was removed next year

Yep...Rolex....listen up..... do some market research. This SD is a travesty.

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 22nd, 2017-06:04
If you are going to do a tribute to one of the most iconic watches in the Rolex history, you have to PAY RESPECT to that original. Cyclops....ridiculous on a Sea-Dweller. 43mm...... absurd. Take a look at the original. Yes...very very disappointing from m...

43mm isn't even what people want!

 By: Harry2 : March 22nd, 2017-06:06
At least not for this watch, I thought the size increases were gone? We already know that 40mm works for Rolex sport models. It\'s the RIGHT size! Improve the movement, and the materials, that\'s what Rolex is good at!

looks good, but white metal would have been helpful. Best, mahesh.,

I actually like the new WG Daytona...

 By: willski : March 22nd, 2017-05:36
...would like to see more pics of it. The SD for me is nice but not super exciting.

perfect

 By: john c : March 22nd, 2017-06:55
For me the Sea Dweller is perfect.

Disappointing

 By: almapama : March 22nd, 2017-07:02
Very disappointing line-up from Rolex this year, IMO. I had expected better from Dufour.

Regarding the new Sea Dweller...

 By: RabidManatee : March 22nd, 2017-07:48
I understand why it made sense for Rolex to differentiate the Sea Dweller from its brother. For most consumers the SD4000 was just a comparatively over-priced Sub with a smaller case and no cyclops to tell people what it was. Personally I think the design...

Cyclops on an SD?

 By: brandon1 : March 22nd, 2017-10:15
And 43mm? Yikes. It just seems wrong. In my opinion I think this is a rare miss for a Rolex sport model. Cheers, Brandon

Didn't Rolex get the memo?

 By: reintitan : March 22nd, 2017-12:14
Big @$$ watches are out! The beauty of the SD4000 was the high water resistance in a svelte 40 mm case. No need to increase it to 43 mm and add a cyclops!

Exactly! [nt]

Speechless...shame and disgrace for the SD...

 By: agyzace : March 22nd, 2017-15:35
They clearly state \'we don\'t care about watch lovers, we don\'t care about this brand\'s history; we care about hypothetical increased sales, even if we ruin our heritage in the process" This company has long entered the joke territory...look at their a...

With the rest of you on this; today is the day the Sea-Dweller died.

 By: Jay (Eire) : March 22nd, 2017-16:02
That said i think we often overestimate our place in the watch world when it comes to things like this. The 'purist' dollar is buttons (as in, insignificant) in the grand scheme of things, we can't move this market or influence it in any meaningful way. W...

I would beg to differ here

 By: agyzace : March 23rd, 2017-01:10
Collectors shape watch trends and even if they themselves buy few watches compared to the global market, they influence a whole lot more (especially in this social media/digital age). I work in Life Sciences and we value influencers/opinion leaders of com...

Dufour

 By: almapama : March 23rd, 2017-02:15
Hi Alex, It's a shame, I had expected much better from Dufour. He did a great job at Zenith and the 2016 line-up was very promising (Daytona, improved Ex1 and the unexpected Air King). This year the line-up seems purely commercially driven, showing no res...

Now that the SD has the new movement...

 By: Horologically_minded : March 22nd, 2017-16:50
Wonder how long it'll take Rolex to introduce it across the other sport models... The cyclops on the SD is blasphemy... Ironically by one of the temples of horology! J

Buy a 16600

 By: TS1987 : March 23rd, 2017-05:02
with lug holes. You will feel much better. Trust me on that

Maybe better to wait and see the new SD in the flesh...

 By: mywrongwrist : March 23rd, 2017-05:18
For some strange reason, these reactions remind me what happened some months ago with PP when they put out the 40 Anniversary Nautiluses, tons and tons of harsh comments then the first time someone had the watches in his hands complete (almost) turnaround...

+1 why not wait and see?

 By: emcquillan : March 23rd, 2017-05:58
I respect many opinions here immensely and appreciate their need for historical and accurate connections especially on tributes, but better movement, case materials and so on. If it had a different name and wasn't a tribute and one looked at the watch obj...

43mm Sea Dweller.. is the new normal it makes complete sense ! -read for explanation-

 By: rom : March 23rd, 2017-06:29
yes it has a cyclops, yes it's bigger, but you know what -AND LET ME JUST SAY as a disclamer that Im a certified VINTAGE LOVER- : that watch makes complete sense: 43MM : people have grown bigger: this 43mm is , when looking at the pics, will wear more lik...

Dear rom, should I put an helmet as well? What do you think?

 By: mywrongwrist : March 23rd, 2017-06:44
Totally agree with you, being myself a vintage fan (only 1 SD, the diabolic 666 "transitional", but also a beloved red 1680)... paired without problem with a Deep Sea... Let\'s wait to have this "Transformer" SD in our hands and then, how to say, form a m...

I was expecting the new Seadweller with much ...

 By: Subexplorer : March 23rd, 2017-07:58
... expectations as there was a rumor it would come with red incriptions! That was a wonderful announcement!! Now... red inscription came but... 43 mm case? Cyclops on glass?? What?? Rolex had the precise recipe for a superb Anniversary Watch but they did...

I agree

A sleeper year for the Crown

 By: tickingover : March 24th, 2017-22:07
Disappointed to see so many negative comments but agree everyone is entitled to their opinion. I suspect the reason they didn't put a cyclops on the SD until now is pressure; not pressure from collectors but physical pressure. A flat surface will resist w...

Well elaborated answer, despite the wine. ;) Thanks for that.

 By: amanico : March 24th, 2017-23:59
Now the thing is about the Cyclop, I guess. Which is a crime of lese majesté when it comes to the SD. Best, Nicolas

Many other manufacturers manage to fit in a date wheel with larger numbers

 By: cazalea : March 25th, 2017-09:02
If Rolex had taken that approach, would it have been more or less appreciated compared to the cyclops? Personally I think that solves the visibility issue with no water resistance/pressure, etc problem - unless someone can tell me why a diver can't have a...

Liking the mock up...

 By: CGJ0 : March 26th, 2017-03:42
but please get rid of the red writing? If a brand draws from heritage then stay true to that heritage. It\'s the same as when Ferrari inevitably being out the new Dino it needs to be revolutionary in more than a handful of ways to support the heritage. Do...

its all about the money...and that seems to be the issue...

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 25th, 2017-09:21
The SD4000 no longer appears on the price list for Rolex. It is now not in production. At 40mm, it is believed that consumers did not differentiate it enough compared with the Submariner which is also 40mm...and given that the SD4000 was more expesive, sa...

New SD a big Submariner

 By: ilie.adrian : March 25th, 2017-14:06
IMO the new Sea Dweller are a big Submariner who responde demands for a bigger Submariner!

Oh my god!! What's wrong with me??

 By: MTR : March 26th, 2017-01:12
Just seeing the picture of the new SD I have to confess: I LIKE IT.... :-/ I always have been searching for a Rolex sports watch like this. I have been waiting for a Sub with a modern movement (the calibre 3255 in my DD40 is fantastic!!), a larger case (s...

Love it

 By: ripper444 : March 26th, 2017-13:29
I love this new model. It just gives people more options now. I have the deepsea and I love it. I think these watches in bigger sizes are a better buy than a sub

I like the new daytona in yellow gold...

 By: kennygfunk : March 29th, 2017-16:20
SD sounds big, but I'm gonna have to see it in person and try it on before I place judgement. Maybe it works for my wrist size, maybe not. Still, it works for some Rolex lovers with larger wrists. For that, I am happy.

SD4000-116600

 By: watch-er : March 29th, 2017-18:07
When I heard this 40mm watch was discontinued, I immediately bought one a AD had in stock. 43 mm watches are too big for me and I do not want one period.

honestly...i really thought about doing exactly the same.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 30th, 2017-07:49
.......i like the SD4000...a lot. My AD didn't have one...and i convinced myself that since i had not been motivated enough to buy one when it was in production, maybe I was being hasty to jump on ity just because it is no longer in production. I would st...

I agree

 By: esddmd : March 29th, 2017-19:09
A disappointing year for the CROWN

Rolex was clearly targeting fans of "bling" with this collection rather than fans of watches.

Hopefully they'll give us more to chew on in 2018.

Cyclops on SD?

 By: Ploprof : April 30th, 2017-12:51
If the new SD did not have the cyclops I would give it a try. I wonder why they would commemorate the sea dweller by adding the cyclops when it never had one, strange. The lack of the cyclops is one of several reasons I chose the SD over the sub, but will...
