I'm getting my pitchfork out

 By: Harry2 : March 22nd, 2017-05:10
Plexi crystal isn\'t on all three... I am now counting the seconds until the Railmaster is in my hands!

You ordered it? [nt]

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2017-07:56

Well I should've been more specific.

 By: Harry2 : March 22nd, 2017-15:33
We\'ll see, I need to hold it and make that decision. I sent an email instantly to the Sydney boutique though! So hopefully as soon as it\'s in I\'ll get to see it! I just asked \'to be on the waiting list\'.

Keep us posted! [nt]

who starts to think that the industry is overdoing the re-release of vintage models? The execution is excellent, no doubt and they will sell out for sure, so cannot blame Omega at all. On the other hand, as a vintage watch lover, I have mixed feelings. Li...

No, you are not alone.

 By: VMM : March 22nd, 2017-05:58
I had same mixed feelings, in some way I find it unfair for the owners of the originals, but as a possible new owner of the watch I like, I couldn't be happier. Have I said it already? Best. Vte

good way to look at it..and let's not forget the

 By: christianch : March 22nd, 2017-06:01
totally crazy vintage prices. I am all for re-editions with modern movements.

Yes, that's another issue.

 By: VMM : March 22nd, 2017-07:48
One of my biggest complaints about this "retro fever", is about crazy prices. I respect and understand it, but from my passion I find it unfair, probably because I can not afford them, but that's the way I feel it. In this material world we live in these ...

i am in two minds on it.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 22nd, 2017-06:21
....i actually like teh concept of owning both a modern and a vintage of teh same piece. At the same time, it does seem to be de rigeur across the industry to use this M.O. as it is so popular. On balance, I go with the trend. Further....take the original...

I think it is well done and those 3 are good ones

 By: crown comfort : March 22nd, 2017-09:55
my only point was, that there are lately too many of those re-editions. I'd also like to see some modern innovation.

Agreed, its great to see what new tech can do in old toys but honestly I'd rather see a new toy worth plunking 7-10k on, the company is paying minimal in r and d and just adding a new movement/ goodies that should

 By: Rogi : March 22nd, 2017-10:46
Have been in the package already or should have made an appearance ages ago when they started the whole craze, but its that addige that companies will do whatever they can to sell you more watches and at least Omega finally listened to the masses. Althoug...

Well said!

 By: Harry2 : March 22nd, 2017-15:38

Only the Seamaster interests me.

 By: MichaelC : March 22nd, 2017-06:44
The kit is obtainable but I'll pass. I do like the cleaner dial on the RM, but the Seamaster's bezel is just a thing of beauty.

i was just thinking that.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 22nd, 2017-07:15
......but i have the original SM300 with original bezel and insert....so that changes the equation for me...i am torn

You are fully set. Nothing here for you.

 By: MichaelC : March 22nd, 2017-07:54
I tend to agree with Arie's opinion about re-editions. I have an easier time with how TAG handled the Autavia - yes, there are clear differences, and owners of the originals will not have interest. But their pieces are also not directly copied. So I prefe...

Hard between Rail and Sea

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 22nd, 2017-08:21
The SM is very cool.

See I am also torn between the two

 By: Harry2 : March 22nd, 2017-15:41
I do wish they updated the RM just a little with a screw down crown, especially since it\'s an automatic. I understand that perhaps this was not possible because of the size of the crown. I also want a plexi Speedy Pro... I still haven\'t got one. Perhaps...

Good thing

 By: TS1987 : March 22nd, 2017-07:48
You can buy it on its own. Good thinking Omega.

I am stunned. Each one beautiful and so well executed..........a trilogy!

 By: Sandgroper : March 22nd, 2017-07:02
What a fantastic job from Omega. Housing a manual movement in the Speedmaster, reducing its size, my hat off, "chapeau", long live common sense Stylish and ...........real smart

I'm not into re-editions at all and find it mostly a sign of lack of imagination.

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : March 22nd, 2017-07:09
Having said that; I think I want this set

LOL! [nt]

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2017-08:08

The trio is a superb attempt from Omega to cater to ordinary collectors

 By: Prodyutb : March 22nd, 2017-08:44
You could deliberate over whether vintage re-editions are \'unfair\' etc etc, but hey, for the vast majority of passionate collectors, what better way to acquire something that they could comfortably enjoy wearing every day! On the other hand, if one pref...

Indeed! :) [nt]

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : March 22nd, 2017-14:39
LOL

See I don't see it that way

 By: Harry2 : March 22nd, 2017-15:44
I don\'t think it looks \'old\'. The tritium lime watches look old, but they also look cool. So therefore, if we can make new Lume look a similar colour and it looks cool. Then let\'s make the watch with those tones. To me, it makes sense. They could\'ve ...

I agree in almost all cases

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : March 22nd, 2017-08:53
But, as with many things in life, I feel that there are exceptions.

I'm guessing the lume was white-ish, yes... but no matter the tone it was in all likelyhood the best lume that was available at the time.

 By: RabidManatee : March 22nd, 2017-18:15
I don't mind a modern movement, but for whatever reason a dial with faux patina is somehow disingenuous.

perfect

 By: john c : March 22nd, 2017-07:34
The new Speedy 57 is to die for.

A better anniversary release

 By: TS1987 : March 22nd, 2017-07:50
than what Rolex did with the Sea Dweller. Anyone agree?

100% [nt]

 By: shortys home : March 22nd, 2017-07:55

Here we agree. [nt]

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2017-08:09

No argument there!

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : March 22nd, 2017-10:09
But I\'m sure Rolex knows what they are doing as they have made few mistakes in their collection-line up-history. I think we should not forget that here on PuristSPro the taste in watches and the knowledge of them is extremely sophisticated compared to th...

Perhaps it's some sort of cunning plot

 By: Harry2 : March 22nd, 2017-15:45
Does anyone else imagine Rolex controlled by a cackling puppet master?

Yes, but these Omega are limited release and small enough number to sell out.

 By: Jay (Eire) : March 22nd, 2017-18:57
The masses would likely not buy these watches as they are too small and look old! Rolex catered to the masses with the SD and not to people on this or other watch enthusiast forum.

The Speedy '57 is realy beautiful!

I'm definitely in for the Railmaster and the Speedy

 By: reintitan : March 22nd, 2017-09:40
Notice the watches in the Trilogy box set have extra writing on the dial (1957-2017 I believe) and some extra engraving on the caseback. For me I don't want a date range printed on the dial so I'm buying mine separately. My favorite watch this year is def...

really...i havent seen that writing on the dial? [nt]

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 22nd, 2017-09:54
can't see it on their website either

you may be correct....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 22nd, 2017-11:08
......not sure how i feel about itr....the trio set need to be differentiated somehow......the date, if subtle could be quite cool.

Here's what Hodinkee says about the box set versions

 By: reintitan : March 22nd, 2017-11:58
"Note that it will also be possible to purchase a set with the three watches together, again in a limited edition of 557 examples, and Omega announced that those will bear dedicated engravings on the caseback and an extra script on the dial . The set will...

It's not that bad...see photos. It's good to distinguish from the other individual ones.

Small "Trilogy" and LE number ...

Yep....i have seen it now. I think we can get hung up on the minuitiae.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 23rd, 2017-02:28
......L.E or plain vanilla, these are all great and fund watches........if it was THAT important to be exactly like the original vintage, I would say GET the original vintage. But for a modern iteration.....these are ALL winners.

I heard something smilar about extra writings on the back and on the dial. The extra inscription would be ....

 By: HSTE : March 22nd, 2017-12:48
.... "Trilogy" on the dial. Have not seen any pictures on this so far though. I guess it would be better if they would not do this.... Cheers, HSTE

Indeed, yes, SADLY, this is the situation!

 By: Speedie74 aka Mr. Torquise : March 23rd, 2017-07:33
There will be a writing and a number on the dial: " 000 Trilogy ". What a pity!!! Yours, Adam

Good on Omega. Some thoughts:

 By: brandon1 : March 22nd, 2017-10:10
A very cool trio. I love that Omega seems to be right-sizing the cases a bit and appear to happily omit the dreaded (feared?) date window. Two thoughts: 1. When will we see an homage to the Seamaster with curvy lugs? I think a reissue of the the MoD Seama...

Wooow!! This is a BIG Announcement my dear Nicolas!!...

Railmaster for me!

 By: Speedie74 aka Mr. Torquise : March 22nd, 2017-12:42
Have already ordered! Why the Railmaster? It is the only one, which is not produced at the moment from Omega, the Seamaster 300 and the Speedie has a lot of iterations. It is the only one which has 15.000 Gauss, it is the "cheapest" , it is the most uncom...

That's the same reason for me for choosing the Railmaster, too.

 By: reintitan : March 22nd, 2017-13:01
But over time if finances permit, I'd like to get the Speedy, too and some time down the road the SM 300 (even though it's kind of redundant in my collection as I have the SM300 Spectre).

It doesn't bother me at all!

 By: Speedie74 aka Mr. Torquise : March 22nd, 2017-13:50
Because I have never had the original one, I didn\'t get used to it! Just like at the Jaeger Geophysic Tribute: I loved the watch despite of the automatic movement! I find a new, modern movement much more better than a simple, \'old\' one, especially in t...

Well, let me put it in a different way: The Speedmaster is manual winiding, the Seamaster 300 is auto, such as the original.

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2017-13:52
The Railmaster is automatic... Unlike the original. Let's say that it is the less consistent of the three. Horologically speaking. As for the aesthetics, nothing to say... The next best thing, after the original. Best, Nicolas

:))) [nt]

 By: amanico : March 23rd, 2017-23:31

But Omega doesn't have a manual wind movement

 By: reintitan : March 22nd, 2017-15:43
that can withstand >15,000 Gauss of magnetism. So rather than make the Railmaster a faux-anti-magnetic watch like IWC does with their modern Ingenieur models, I'm glad Omega gave this Railmaster its actual tool-watch functionality with the automatic movem...

Seamaster is my favorite

 By: vitalsigns : March 22nd, 2017-13:24
Good size, and overall faithful rendition to the original, even if I could have tolerated (even preferred!) reversing the markings on the bezel (count up instead of count down). Do they have plexi crystals? Speedmaster is nice too, but the Seamaster wins ...

Too bad about the sapphire.

 By: vitalsigns : March 22nd, 2017-13:49
Understood regarding the count down bezel; just expressing that I may have preferred the count up bezel, even though it would be a departure from history. Cheers, and thank you for the report, John

The clincher for me would have been the use of Cal. 321 in the Speedmaster.

 By: Kamy : March 22nd, 2017-15:08
Otherwise a faithful, and lovely, re edition. Thanks for the pics Nicolas. Cheers, Kamy

I'm not into vintage or look and I was told you need full amount deposit and not refundable...

 By: Clueless_Collector : March 22nd, 2017-16:23
but you can use the funds for other timepieces should you change your mind. I think this is a good practice, making sure it's not "sold out" due to allocation. Rgds Raymond

Given how highly these have been anticipated,

 By: remarque : March 22nd, 2017-19:53
it is fascinating to see the spectra of reactions elicited by the three... I have been waiting for a Railmaster reissue. I have never seen the original in the flesh, and did not even know it was 38 mm or manual wind (although I might have guessed the latt...

Marc, the water resistance of the Railmaster 1957 is 60 meters. Now the question I still have in mind is how thick the case is...

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2017-22:44
38 mm, you will not feel the difference. You will see, it is a very good size. A vintage watch without the vintage mechanism service worries, you said. I totally get your point, and your worries. On another side, this kind of vintage movement can be servi...

The Railmaster intrigues. I've always liked it. Is there an MSRP?

 By: Echi : March 22nd, 2017-20:46
I\'ve been thinking Panerai most days but this might just break that Italian reverie. Manual would\'ve been tops. Is it at least a closed case back? Thanks, Nico! Echi.

I think I saw 20 K CHF for the set of three. So, basically, divide per three...

I allow myself to doubt that. We'll see that in 60 years time... My Ck 2913 starts after the sligtest movement and keeps excellent time. Do I need of extoll the virtue of cal. 321? As far as ck 2914, cal. 284/5 or 6 are no lame ducks, believe me. Are you ...
