The Montblanc Heritage Spirit Orbis Terrarum UNICEF live

May 21, 2017,00:36 AM

I have finally had the opportunity to view the Montblanc Heritage Spirit Orbis Terrarum UNICEF live during the recent reopening of the Montblanc Vienna Boutique (full report: www.watchprosite.com here).

In addition to it contributing to a worthy cause - child literacy in the developing world (see here: www.watchprosite.com more details) it's a very convincing world timer.

The twin sapphire discs for the world map (seen from the North Pole down) and the day / night indication (including a colour gradation for latitude) work wonderfully and the 41mm size - as opposed to 43mm for the previously only Orbis Terrarum with the fully coloured map (the 4810) - is very pleasant for us with smaller wrists.

The UNICEF Blue croc strap is the cherry on the cake. If there is one thing I would contemplate changing then it would be the replacement of the display case back with a solid one, where the UNICEF logo could be engraved, as opposed to etched in.

At any rate, a very convincing watch with a noble cause and a great wrist companion for globetrotters smile

I have a soft spot for this Orbis Terrarum.

There would be two ways I would consider getting one. 1/ I want to build a small collection of world timers. In this case, I would add the GP WW TC, the JLC Universal Time and this Orbis Terrarum to my Patek 5110P. Problem: I would also consider getting t...

Thanks for your thoughts, Nico!

Fully agree with both approaches So you need encouragement for the VC World Timer, then?

Yes, but the platinum version is way too high for me, in terms of price.

And even if I could afford it, my Patek 5110P is still above, in terms of charm. Best, Nicolas

But not in terms of accurately representing all the time zones :)

You could start with the Overseas in steel...

True :)

Meant more in comparison to your 5110P

You mean this one?

Quite an appealing offer.. Also like the 41mm case & the moving discs, as compared to my JLC UT

It really is great value and one of the few options with city rings in either Latin, Chinese or Arabic characters I was thinking that another Limited Edition with the world viewed from the South Pole may be great fun, too

Thanks Alkiro :)

It is a very likeable combination of watch and cause in my humble opinion

Absolutely agree with you

The montblanc worldtimer have been on my mind since I tried it on the wrist at incheon airport. Both the colored and blue version.

Just keeping a look out for the Chinese character version. Cheers PAt

Since there are 500 of them...

Should be feasible. Have you asked in your local Montblanc Boutique yet?

Yet to visit them.

In steel, the affordability is also Fun. Plus the support of UNICEF feels good. None of the pretensions of uberpriced watches. Pretty map always a talking point. Regards MTF

Absolutely, MTF :)

A nice conversation piece alright. And the price in steel is a steal (pun intended)

This one attracts me a lot as well

Also agree on your point of solid case back would have been a better choice...The way is done feels like a short-cut...

Let's put it this way...

 By: KMII : May 21st, 2017-07:37
I rather the money goes to UNICEF than towards a solid case back but fully agree with you

Very true!

Still thinking about the Chinese version...several other choices making it hard to take the plunge...

I hear you...

Always more watches than are feasible or opportune at any point in time

Beautiful Picture of an Awesome watch....

any news on why the Arabic version has no Unicef etching? Thank You, S

It is confusing alright...

 By: KMII : June 3rd, 2017-23:49
As Montblanc was adamant on it not being part of the UNICEF line yet it appears in their dealer catalogue as a UNICEF model. Weird...

Local boutique told me it's not allowed in that region.

 By: mj23 : June 4th, 2017-17:16
That was the explanation I got.

I see :)

 By: KMII : June 4th, 2017-22:14
Thanks for this, MJ23!

They told me the print of the UNICEF on the caseback was not allowed.

 By: mj23 : June 7th, 2017-20:26
Sounded the association with UNICEF was forbidden somehow.
