JLC Perpetual Master Ultra Thin (Black Dial)

Jun 24, 2017,15:31 PM

This watch combines my love of a light slim case (unobtrusive to shirt sleeves and arm movements), an understated black dial (which relinquishes details only to eyes that treads on details), and a mechanical complication (that models the pesky Gregorian calendar with its quirky number of days in a month and year).  My only gripe (which many of you share) being the year box at 7-8 o'clock is mostly unnoticeable on the black dial. One of these days I'll have to give more detailed impression. But until then, it'll have to collect sentimental specks on the sapphire glass!

Finger is much better, thanks. Another 5-7 days and the stitches come out. Cheers, John

I think the fact that "the year box at 7-8 o'clock is mostly unnoticeable on the black dial" is a good thing,

as we normally don't need to rely on watches for telling which year it is now.

Oops. This is what I meant! Agree with you 100%!

I'd prefer the date is not there and it's great that ithe date is unnoticeable! Sorry, English!

Congrats. I prefer the black dial too!

welcome to the Dr Strange club lol My silver dial boutique edition says Hi. I got this before the black dial version was released. If I had to choose again, it would be a nightmare decision lol Cheers Robin ...

Thanks Robin! Glad to be part of this club! Fell pretty hard for this watch before Dr. Strange came out!

I am willing to bet you are struggling somewhat with the idea of attaining the black dial as well given the recent price drops!

You're welcome. Salud too 😉

Best wishes Alkiro

You are right. The only small reserve I have on this watch is the indication of the year.

For the rest, it is just superb, well made and a very interesting perpetual calendar. Enjoy yours, John. Best, Nicolas

Thanks again for your kind words, Nicolas!

I recently consolidated my watch collection size from 7 to 4. I believe this watch will be one of the cornerstones moving on!

I will make no commitments to keep it at 4!

This watch just required me to trade in a few pieces

I think I prefer the black dial too, so handsome.

And I agree with you as well, glad the year box blends into the dial quite nicely. I would've preferred if it wasn't there altogether, sort of messes with the otherwise perfectly balanced dial. Great piece regardless!

A very nice, under-the-radar piece.. +1 on the year, which for me is pretty superfluous.. ;))

.. But all together an appealing low-key offering, but not without charm .. Cheers & Best, hs

Agreed 100% about year box.
