JLC 2017 offerings now and still to come? Other thoughts most desired. Read on.

A response to all, albeit a bit delayed, to a thread in Amanico's JLC sector review from Jan/Feb 2017. I hope Nicolas is right that JLC introduces some new pieces before Jan 2018. As the true second geophysic (or as I believe it should have been called, the true second geomatic) was brought out circa Sep 2015, maybe the fall of 2017 will be when the geophysic family continues to grow.

I phoned USA JLC customer service today, and asked why the tribute to geophysic 1958 is still listed as available in March 2017 when it has long been sold out/unavailable. The lady responded that corporate leaves  it up to "stimulate traffic". To me, this is distasteful and deceptive. It is one thing to leave it on the website with the notation "no longer available", but to list it as "call to order" is shameful. I so much very want to acquire the steel 1958 ttgeophysic, but alas, I cannot find any for sale in the second hand market, let alone the risk of vetting the seller.

With this introduction: I am curious to hear opinions on the new Grand Seiko SBGR305, picture courtesy of Hodinkee screen capture from Jack Forster video. This just released brushed titanium 40.5mm piece is, to me, a clear and direct competitor to the steel true second geophysic, sans jumping second, but with (better) date window, better hands, similar white granular dial, and much better price. I have actually reserved one so I have the opportunity to experience it in the flesh.

The true second JLC has, to me, been a poor ugly duckling sibling to the 2014 tribute to 1958. I want to love it but I don't. So if I can't get want I want, maybe I will love the SBGR305 in a different and still happy way. Obviously different beasts, but if JLC does not give me what it can do so well, I must move on! And, with 72 hour power reserve and highest quality detail for mass manufactured pieces, maybe the SBGR305 is the way to go...

Thoughts on the comparison? I hope to hear lots of opinions.

Best, Marc
PS I could not pull the trigger on placing the nonrefundable deposit on the 57 railmaster today.  That is an unfortunate policy of Omega imho.

I bought my Geophysic 1958 a year after it was released

I was lucky in that I got it brand new from a JLC Boutique after putting down a deposit. The boutique said it was the last stainless steel model to be delivered to North America straight from Le Sentier. Now a year later I saw another one in a JLC Boutiqu...

While I am a huge fan of the Geophysic...

Both in the Tribute and the TS forms, the GS is a very appealing proposition in its own right. What I especially like is that next to the Tribute pieces they released a modern equivalent in parallel.

That IS something ;)
