A cool watch from the Past: Jaeger-Lecoultre Master Compressor Memovox Platinum.

Feb 20, 2018,14:02 PM

When the Master Compressor Memovox was unveiled in 2002, it was a revolution, based on a technical novelty, the compressor crown, and on a look, strongly inspired from one of the icons of the brand, the Polaris.

A Polaris revisited, if you prefer.

It came in steel, white gold, rose gold, but also, and, less famous, in  platinum.

The platinum version came with a superb blue dial, and was a heavy watch, due to its generous ( for that time ) dimensions ( 41, 5 mm ).

It is a limited edition of 250 pieces, at least it was announced so, but I doubt all the 250 were ever produced, as the main issue of this watch is its price, somewhere between 25 000 to 30 000 Euros, from memory, in 2002 / 2003. And maybe a not so evident necessity or consistence to produce a diving watch in a noble or precious metal.

But what it lacks in consistence, it gains in coolness.

Have a look at these pictures I could take at the manufacture, when I was there in July.

The platinum case back and planisphere.

And for the end, probably the best picture I took of this watch.

It is funny to think or feel that, 16 years ago, this watches ages so well. The design ( Merci, Magali ) is young, fresh and powerful. The only thing which ages less well is, probably, the case.

Still, a good watch from the past.

Best,

Nicolas

....and aren't JLC clever knowing blue dials would eventually be so fashionable :-D

Can't help myself, the aesthetics of the Compressor Memovox

seem to me much stronger than those of the current Polaris series. Perhaps I am too much rooted in the past - but the Compressor Memovox is more straightforward design, bolder, more masculine. And withstands the test of time very well. And this Pt version...

Two different " playgrounds ". You have to remember how the were welcomed, these Master Compressor, especially the Memovox.

They were not and they still are not consensual. But with time passing, they are more and more appreciated... The Polaris series is different, more consensual, less bold. To each his own. Thanks for your feedback, Petr. Much appreciated. Nicolas

Powerful and lively

Thank you for sharing my favorite of the Master Compressor series! Not only was the blue dial prescient, but its color and texture help the white and red accents to POP more distinctly. Also, this watch recalls a time when Jaeger-LeCoultre included a plat...

If my memory serves me well, the last JLC with the simple clasp was the Reverso Platinum Nr 2. I totally agree with you...

I never got why with the double folding buckle, JLC opted for white gold rather than platinum. Best, Nicolas

sounds like a corporate accountant made that choice... [nt]

Folding vs pin buckle

Agree with you Nico, that’s why I bought 2 of the 16mm pin buckles as spares (the classic styling). You may still be able to get from some ADs but it has been discontinued. Now the pin buckles are with those huge JLC logos (I personally cannot understand ...

I wish JLC would re-start this tradition...

Ioved the Platinum, 250 pieces of the MUT, the QP, the RdM, the MM, the Geographic, and the Master Grande Memovox - including this one. I would love to see the blue/navy strap with red stitch....THAT would be killer! -Deam
