Seen in Vienna - Daniel Roth 109.Y.60

Dec 03, 2016,13:54 PM

Friends,

Both in Vienna and in London I had the chance to see some Independent watch maker’s creations!

Must admit that I am not very well read about many of the Independent watch makers…

Here is one that was a first for me: Daniel Roth reference 109.Y.60.

Very unusual case shape and dial layout.

But what is even more unusual is the second’s hand!

With three arms, and three seconds’ tracks.

20 seconds each, each are in different length to show you the 1-20, 21-40 and the 41- 60 seconds!

Not only is this a very different way of showing the seconds, but due to the placing of the sub-second and the length of one of the arms…

A very different solution is required.

A channel on the inside of the case to give the longest arm room to go around!

smile

A very cool detail.

On the back, a very nice finish and layout of the movement.

Thank you to the owner for showing me this one – a first for me!

Best

Blomman

This unusual second hand display makes me think to the GO Panograph. Not the same function (second vs chrono) but the same spirit IMHO

Unusual timepiece for sure. Not easy to see one for real. Best wishes Alkiro

The "channel" in the inside case is a first for me....

Never saw that on any other watches! Best Blomman

Very unique and playful way of displaying the seconds hand.

A pity Bvlgari do not replicate it now, since taking the brand over. Lovely watch

Agree!

But they do have some similar cases, right? Best Blomman

Daniel Roth, as an indie brand, is no more – hasn’t been since ’99/2000, when Bvlgari bought his company and Gerald Genta’s.

The new designs, since then, have been co-branded – so I think he’s still there, rather than having retired or left to start a new company, like Martin Braun did, after his company was purchased by the Franck Muller Group.

Yes, the man Daniel Roth is still around.

Making VERY bespoke watches (2 or 3 per year) under name Jean Daniel Nicholas - named after his son, himself and wife\'s name (modified) Quite amazing pieces too. I\'ve always had a soft spot for his Daniel Roth brand but less loved by Bvlgari or co-brand...

As I said....

Enamel? Lacquer?

Real enamel dial [nt]

And your photos do it absolute justice. The dial is simply so different from everything else and that seconds hand is a clear winner Thanks for showing it and thanks to the owner for bringing this unique piece along!

Even better in real!
